Worried about blood in poo

This might be quite gross, apologies.
I’ve been having unexplained nausea for a few weeks but not actually been sick and I’ve been a bit bloated (more so recently than normal). I’ve also had some pains in my abdomen that come and go but nothing to stop me getting on with things. I did a pregnancy test to rule that out and it was negative. However, this afternoon my poo was quite loose but not diarrhoea. When I wiped, there was some blood. I managed to get a GP appointment and will now have to give a stool sample and go for a blood test.

I’m now thinking the worst and am worried about what this could be. I’m 44, happily married with 3dc and I wish I could stop worrying but I can’t. Anyone have anything similar that turned out to be quite straightforward? Just to give me some reassurance that things could be fine!

More than likely something non sinister like piles especially if the blood was fresh.
Good for you facing it head on and going to the GP.
Its so easy to panic and imagine all sorts…I get into a state and my mind runs away with me.
I had unexplained stomach pains for months and diagnosed myself with all manner of hideous things. Eventually did a stool sample, blood tests and an ultrasound which found nothing. Seems it was long covid symptoms. Went away by itself but took months. I take 2 apple cider vinegar capsules everyday and that seems to have kept the discomfort at bay.
I have sometimes had some blood on the paper from piles….currently having a nasty flare up but no blood this time. Just very sore and uncomfortable.
Wishing you all the best x

You've done the right thing. To reassure you, I'm a HCP and I reckon in a day of appointments spanning 10 hours (so minimum 40 patients a day) I probably end up giving out about 3 FIT kits and/or other faecal specimen requests a day.
Good luck x

Thank you so much, glad all worked out okay for you and that you are feeling better xxx

That is reassuring, I think I’ve had both the fit sample thing and the other one. Now I just have to plan a poo and catch it 🤮. Thank you x

@JuniperBerries76 at the attempt of finding some comedy for you, I've had a patient call me once saying he was on the toilet and could I talk him through doing the kit?!
