I’m in a state about my piles!

Looking for reassurance really.
I have had piles since I had kids…eldest now 15, but they were never more than an annoying nuisance which could be alleviated by a few days of some otc cream and then I’d forget all about them until the next time they reared their ugly, stingy little heads.
In July, the blighters made another appearance so I decided to tackle full on with a week of anusol suppositories and cream.
This seemed to make everything sore and stinging, so I stopped that and tried various things from natural creams to witch hazel.
Finally contacted the GP who has prescribed Uniroid cream and suppositories. Need to pick up from chemist, but I’m already panicking they aren’t going to work!!
I feel like all I think about is piles, how everything is feeling, worrying about whether they will get better.
Has anyone suffered but found that prescription stuff sorted things out?
Thanks in advance

Join Benendon, it's £11.99 a month & when you have been in 6 months you can ask to be referred on the NHS & if it will take more than 5 weeks to be seen you can go private & if you need surgery you can have it done privately.

It took me until the bleeding was quite significant for me to pluck up courage and seek surgery. I didn't have to wait long (pre-covid) and had a choice of my local nhs hospital or private hospital (nhs funded). I went private. It was lovely, a nice room with en-suite, and lovely nurse.

Post surgery was A LOT more painful than I had expected. I nearly passed out the first time I had a poo. (Top tip - pre load laxatives/all bran and lentils etc).
I was initially signed off work for 4 weeks but extended it to 6. Early days revolves around the loo. I was so full of laxatives that I had to duck behind a bush once when walking the dog.

But I can tell anyone here it was SO worth it. I have a perfect bum hole. No pain, ever. No bleeding ever.

My advice to anyone is don't delay, get it done when you can.

I second this.
Yes the recovery from the surgery was horrendous.
But I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
If you advance search me I've posted in more detail in the past.

@ShamedBySiri was this a haemaroodectomy? I'm booked for this next month and my anxiety is really starting to kick up a notch as I'm reading horror stories about the recovery I have 2 very young children one will be one and the other 2.5. Having it done on the Fri my husband will be off sat sun mon only no other means of support also want to keep it private as I know silly but v embarrassed will I be ok!? They are internal only and a few are skin tags I think only one haemorrhoid. Really scared also should Add these started in first pregnancy thrombosed AGONY. But now cause me very rare problems am I stupid to be getting it done ? I don't particularly want piles for the rest of my life and when I do have a flare about it is horrific.

Germaloids the only thing that's every slightly helped me tried all other creams and suppositories but the latter pointless as mine external

ShamedBySiri · 10/11/2022 08:23

@mrssunshinexxx Sorry I only just noticed your reply. I'm guessing your surgery is imminent and just wanted to say I hope it doesn't get cancelled with NHS pressures, and that it all goes well. I really think it's well worth it in the long run. Post op pain and discomfort was mainly around bowel motions so you should be OK to care for your little ones quite quickly. Good luck!

mrssunshinexxx · 13/11/2022 19:46

Thanks @ShamedBySiri I actually cancelled it I've decided to have it done once they are army school and pre school in a couple of years and I can fully rest during the day x

Hi @bottomwoes OP were your piles internal? What were your symptoms?

bottomwoes · 25/01/2023 22:06

Hi,

Yes, mainly internal which were prolapsing. Symptoms were a heavy feeling and just really sore! Absolutely miserable. The flare up lasted about 3 months, but everything has settled down and I hardly think about them. Until they play up again 😂

That's great news that it had settled. Are you able to let me know the yarrow product you used? Thank you so much

Bellybutton88 · 08/02/2023 19:34

@bottomwoes just wondered was you in a lot of pain with your piles? How long did it go on for?

bottomwoes · 08/02/2023 20:02

@Bellybutton88 yes, I was! They were sometimes just sore, but often I just literally felt like I had a pain in my bum. Looking back, it spoilt the whole summer. I was uncomfortable and also panicking about what I was going to do about them.
I think I made it worse in some ways as I was constantly trying new creams/suppositories etc and I wonder whether all the different things made them more irritated.
Once I just used the yarrow cream about 4 times a day, after several weeks things calmed down and have been much more manageable.
Hope you aren’t suffering too much

Thank you so much @bottomwoes for your reply. I am currently going through the same as you were, some days are very painful esp after a bowel movement, others its more manageable. It all just feels sore and when i kind of feel down there i can feel some soft lumps. I have ordered the yarrow but it hasn't arrived yet so in the meantime I am just using Anusol on days where its really painful. I have a gp appointment on monday to check, hopefully it is just piles and nothing more serious as its really worrying me! Any advice will be much welcomed.

Bellybutton88 · 19/03/2023 11:31

Hi all i have had sigmoidoscopy yesterday and

Bellybutton88 · 19/03/2023 12:17

*and was diagnosed with grade 1 piles. I thought that piles dont hurt until they get to grade 3 so im not sure this is the cause. However will discuss with my consultant.
