Too late for DD to have MMR at 20 months???

My DD is 20 months and has not had her MMR or the single jabs. Is it too late for her to get them at 20 months?
Doctors never sent a reminder and we have had major family problems for last year so just totally went out my head. I now feel awful and worried she going to get ill because of my crapness .
Advice please??

I don't see why not. I've just made an appointment for dd (nearly 18 mmonths) to have hers - dh and I were undecided as to whether to have MMR or single jabs. We're going for MMR. The receptionist at the surgery was a bit snotty, because I didn't give consent for dd to have the jab at 13 months at the same time as the meningitis jab, but when she had the meningitis jab, the nurse told me I could come back at any time for MMR.

Don't beat yourself up - mine hasn't had hers because of my general indecision

Elibean · 22/01/2008 20:49

My friend's dd had her MMR at 2.5, no problem. Don't beat yourself up, its fine to go ahead and get it now

WriggleJiggle · 22/01/2008 20:49

dd1 had hers at 20 months. I didn't want her to have it at 12/13 months as she was still catching up on having previous overdue jabs then. Then the nurse was horrible and gave me a hard time, so I delayed it further. Then I did some supply work, and refused to take time off to fit in with a surgery who could only do jabs in a two hour slot, once a week . Then we went on quite a big holiday. Then dd was ill. etc.

Don't think its a problem at all. In fact I think the MMR used to be routinely done at 18 months.

my 2yo is only getting his forst mmr next week. i am rubbish. better late than never i say, just glad he hasnt caught any of them.

Divastrop · 22/01/2008 21:00

my ds2 had his MMR at 2.4 as i was unsure about it but then heard measles was going around the nursery.i cant remember them being funny with me about it.

if they start harrassing me to let dd2(2.1) have hers i shall tell them where they can stick their needles.

Roskva · 23/01/2008 13:32

lol at "i shall tell them where they can stick their needles"

I'm still not sure whether I'm doing the right thing in letting dd have it, but that's just me being a wimp.

It really bugs me when nurses, receptionists, etc get arsy with people who don't fit into their schedules - ultimately as tax payers we are paying their wages

yurt1 · 23/01/2008 13:35

You can get it any age. They give it to adults.

nancy75 · 23/01/2008 13:41

my dd has jsut had it, she is 2.5. i put it off because i was unsure about giving her this jab. my health visitor was very arsy when i told her this, i pointed out that dd is my child and i would be the one to have to deal with any side effects of the jab, not her. i had also heard that there is less risk if they are a little bit older, i dont know if this is true or not, but it did make me feel a bit better.

olivo · 23/01/2008 13:55

my dd is 17 mo and hasnt had hers yet. like roskva, i didnt want my dd to have it at the same time as the meningitis one and then, she got ill, it was christmas, she came into contact with c pox and i didn't want her to have side effects of mmr and the pox,etc etc. I am still undecided as to whether she actually will have it, but does anyone know if there are less risks if they have it a bit older?

Milliways · 23/01/2008 13:59

Our surgery chase kids up to 3 years old - then start on the Pre School Booster

There is currently a Hib catch-up camppaign running that may affect your daughter - get them both done at once?

ArcticRoll · 23/01/2008 14:00

Im pretty sure my dc were around that age when they had the MMR.

kirstygem · 23/01/2008 14:13

Thanks for all very advice, will get an appointment as soon as possible

I know a family who have an autistic who are delaying their second child's MMR until she is 2, but I don't know if that is their decision or on medical advice. Interestingly, they are still planning on having MMR, not single vaccines.

pagwatch · 23/01/2008 14:16

My son developed autism after his MMR. My DD is not having either, measles or MMR.

potoroo · 23/01/2008 14:57

I've had it as an adult

mosschops30 · 23/01/2008 15:03

Tis no problem dd had hers very late at about 3 IIRC. They just have their booster later than planned thats all

Divastrop · 23/01/2008 21:15

roskva-if you are unsure then delay it as long as you need to.i wish i'd found this sitebefore getting my ds2's done.all i will say is she is your dd,do what you feel is right and dont be pressured by anyone.

Roskva · 24/01/2008 21:44

I think I'm going to cancel that appointment.
