Best shoes for bunion pain

Cait73 · 04/09/2022 20:26

I can barely bend my big toe and wearing closed shoes kills me because of extreme pain over the top of my foot

I've done okay in summer thanks to flip flops and open sandals but I'm going to freeze!

Does anyone know what I need to look for because I'm not going to manage without a proper shoe or boot this winter

Thank you 🙏🏼

Just Google shoes for bunions and several sites come up. I think the most popular in the UK are callashoes and solebliss

not bought any myself yet as the ones I want in my size are out of stock

Arranstorm · 04/09/2022 22:25

Thank you @Cait73 for asking the question and @Twospaniels for the links

I too am in agony with Mortons Neuroma and now have some hope of being able to walk this winter.

Cait73 · 04/09/2022 22:47

@Twospaniels I did google search ended up with a horrible cheap crappy pair from China the pictures looked great so did the reviews, company HQ in London thought I'd be okay they're AWFUL and I can't get my foot in it even if I wanted to

So I was looking for a personal recommendation before I waste any more money

Cait73
were the ones you bought from either of the shops I mentioned?

Cait73 · 05/09/2022 10:16

@Twospaniels no and neither of them came up in my search

I have sever bunions, both feet. DD has them too. I’ve seen a brand online, think it’s Calla, but the shoes are £150 each 🤦‍♀️

For me the depth of the shoe is important as well as the shape, if that makes sense. The reality is that the shoes that are right for me are the old school type, wide and round front, not just a slightly round tip on narrowing front section. Or trainers.

I have awful bunions too

ive bought shoes for a wedding from sole bliss and they were great. Pricey though!

I seem to do ok in hotter in some style and some sketchers for trainers

but I try in masses of different pairs and go first thing in the morning as that gives me a truer fit

Cait73 · 05/09/2022 13:32

@AdoraBell no way can I wear trainers the laces cripple the top of my foot it's awful

Only comfort is barefoot but that's not practical, I have to do the school run and walk my dog

@WellTidy paid £89 for a pair of Sketchers that were okay in the shop, I'm in tears within minutes of putting them on now

@Cait73 thats so annoying, it’s happened to me countless times. I’ve wasted so much money. That’s why I try on first thing in the morning, if I try on after this the shoes feel fine when I try them on and then I just can’t get my foot in at other times. I bought a pair of Nike trainers this summer which felt fine in the shop (middle of the day) and I was so chuffed. Can’t put them on now, they are agonising.

WellTidy · 05/09/2022 13:39

Have you tried wider fit mens shoes? I have worn boys trainers in the past (when my bunions weren’t as bad) as I used to find that they were made wider.

I found it helpful to change the way I lace my trainers - might be worth a try - I do the lacing for high arches.

In winter I have a couple of pairs of M&S wide fit ankle boots in leather that stretch. I wear toe separators (about £1 in savers) to stop my big toes bending further.

feathersandslats · 05/09/2022 14:43

If you like being barefoot, try Vivobarefoot.

Ivegottherona · 05/09/2022 14:47

New look do a wide fit range OP.

Cait73 · 05/09/2022 14:57

@Cuck00soup that's an awesome link thank you, I now need the patience to try a few lol

My sister has a trainer "thing" I get her old ones some have never been worn, criminal to throw them away

You probably all know this, but just in case you do not :
American shoes sizes allow for very wide feet. It seems to run like this :

UK................................................................................US

Normal....................................................................Normal
Extra Wide ...................................................................2E
Extra extra wide ( no UK equivalent ? )......................4E
Extra extra wide with extra depth (for orthotics )......6E

A few years ago I got some 4E shoes and a pair of 6E walking boots and life became wonderful.
Now they are in tatters and wish I could find more to buy .... so I'm following the thread

Sorry about all the "..................." formatting is a mystery to me
