Schwannoma on spine

My husband has been in terrible pain with his back since October 2021. He has been diagnosed with a schwannoma on the sheath that covers the nerves in his spine.
Has anyone had any experiences of this and can tell me outcomes good or bad of what to expect.
He has been referred for surgery but this could take some time and the doctor wasn't very helpful in terms of whether this would actually help his back pain.

@strawberry2017 Hi my husband has had two of these and is now fit and well. The operation to remove is a big surgery but he recovered well both times. They have both left a numb patch in the area the affected nerve serves which I think will be permanent. His both manifested as severe back pain that got worse and he took strong pain killers while he waited for the operations. It was very worrying ( especially the first time), but they were both benign which I understand is normally the case. Has he been referred to a neurologist?

@Waxlyrically he has yes, I don't warm to him.
He has pretty much said he's not convinced removing it will help the back pain, but it's the back pain that's crippling him.
My husband has been on strong pain killers and they don't really help.
We are just waiting to find out if the surgery will be NHS or done by onehealth which is who he was referred too originally.

@strawberry2017 that sounds awful. My husband has had no pain ( other than recovery pain) afterwards and leads a normal life. He had the first operation done privately via a work scheme and the second one via the NHS, by the same surgeon. Obviously there might be medical differences between your husband and mine but there was never any question of them not being removed. In fact the worry was if they carried on growing they could cause serious damage alongside the pain. Additionally, for the first in particular, they needed to do a biopsy. His most recent MRI showed he might have a third forming but there is no recognised condition or genetic ( thankfully) cause they can find.
