Hi any ideas what this is. It's very sore when I swallow. I have a sore head and feel a bit nauseous....

Drooling is a symptom of Quinsey.

Quick question....the yellow pus appears to have turned black in some spots.....is this normal?
is it contagious?my husbands seems to be getting yellow spots just like mine🙈🙊

Oh and yes it's contagious! I worked with a women who had chronic tonsillitis and every time she got it so did I. Her getting a tonsillectomy helped me loads 😂

I haven't had it enough times in a year to qualify for one

Penguintears · 04/09/2022 22:40

Quinsy can be serious as it can stop you swallowing. Are you already on antibiotics? I would want to be seen again if I were you.

Mrsmch123 · 04/09/2022 22:55

@YourUserNameMustBeAtLeast3Characters yeh been given antibiotics

Oh gosh I'm so sorry to hear, maybe the infection was more advanced by the time you started it so it's taken longer! Sipping hot drinks helped me as well, and I sucked those really horrible lozenges, Fisherman's Friend. They were the only ones strong enough. Hopefully by tomorrow you begin to feel better then, otherwise I'd say time to rig the GP again, in case as another PP has said its developed into quinsy. That would require more immediate action. Just check that your tonsils aren't getting bigger/restricting your airways

Shoemadlady · 04/09/2022 23:08

That's tonsillitis. It's horrible and you'll need a course of antibiotics to clear it x get well soon

Shoemadlady · 04/09/2022 23:09

Gargle with soluble aspirin, get some diflam spray and drink plenty of warm drinks NOT cold drinks.

HappyGoLuckyLuLu · 04/09/2022 23:11

Oh I feel your pain, had a bad bout of tonsillitis when I was very run down a few years back & it was worse than childbirth pain wise! After a few days I managed to eat a bit of ice cream but I lost a lot of weight. Really hope you start to feel better soon Flowers

carlandellie · 04/09/2022 23:16

I used to suffer with tonsillitis all the time, if the antibiotics haven't kicked in by tomorrow I'd go back you may need something stronger they should be doing something by now.
Difflam spray, regular painkillers and dequadin losenges from the pharmacy were always good for numbing the throat.
I know it's probably the last thing you want to eat but toast always helped, I suppose it scraped the tonsils on the way down so helped them heal quicker.
Hope your feeling better soon, it's absolutely horrible!

Mrsmch123 · 04/09/2022 23:21

Thanks everyone.
@Shoemadlady ive been using a spray since Friday, will try the other recommendations.
@NippyWoowoo will see how it is in the morning and call the gp back.
@HappyGoLuckyLuLu ohhh yes would take childbirth any day over this!im miserable☹️

@carlandellie the thought of the toast scraping my throat is giving me the fear....although I can see the logic....might try in morning if im brave enough🙈

I know about 4 different people with tonsillitis at the moment. All with inflamed tonsils with white bits on.

Definitely doing the rounds

Covidwoes · 05/09/2022 07:28

@Mrsmch123 the last time I had tonsillitis, I ate half of a 'sharp' bagel. It was bloody sore, but it did scrape some of the white stuff off, and I got better quite quickly after that! Could be a coincidence, but I like to think it helped. 😂

Mrsmch123 · 05/09/2022 20:02

so I grinned and bared the toast scraping my throat this morning and I don't know if it's coincidence or not but I'm defo feeling better tonight!
