something to soothe my 8mo baby's itchy skin?

hello,
can anyone suggest a cream or bath oil or herbal remedy that might alleviate itching on the dry patches on my baby's skin?
she has emollient already but am just wondering if it's okay to use calomine lotion or anything similar to soothe the itching, it seems to be keeping her awake at night sometimes.
thanks for any suggestions!

Is it excema? If so I use Aveeno...only thing that seems to help my dd.

think it may be mild excema, yes - i had excema as a child - my mum tells me it's nothing like as bad as mine but i'd rather try and catch / soothe it before it gets worse if possible.
thank you!

Take her to the GP and get her checked out. If it is I would ask for Aveeno. It is usually one of the last creams to be prescribed as it is expensive but it has helped greatly for my dd.

I agree with the others, take her to the GP, who will be able to say for definite if it's eczema. Don't even think of using calamine lotion, it's drying and if anything will make the dry skin worse. Also, don't use soap, that is drying as well. There are various soap substitutes you can try. My dd has E45 shower cream.

Take her to the GP, you might need a mild steroid cream.

Oilatum is good in the bath, or Aveeno (but do a patch test first, Aveeno made my DS scream).

What emollients are you using? E45 contains lanolin which babies with eczema are often allergic to, and aqueous cream isn't recommended either. Something like Diprobase/Doublebase/Epaderm could help.

thanks for your replies.
the GP gave her doublebase, and also epaderm which we use in place of soap in the bath. think they do alleviate the dryness a bit, just wondered if there was anything cooling for the itching. will speak to GP again.
thanks!
