Large Poop

I have been constipated for years on and off, I have IBS I increased my fibre and eat much better. About 4 days ago I had a very painful and large poop it blocked the toilet I had to get a buck of water to flush it down (gross I known) and again today I had a large all in one poo that again needed the bucked to flush.

These poops have cut my anus so I now have an anal fisher, I am putting sudercream on. Has anyone even been in my boat, any suggestions?

Dulcoease
(NOT Dulcolax.)

Dulcoease is a stool softener so it will make it more comfortable to go and stop open the fissure up each time. It may take a few days before you stop seeing dots of blood and it starts to heal though.

I feel your pain as I’ve suffered with these a few times. Stool softeners immediately, they’ll stop the fissure from reopening and allow it to heal (in my experience that takes around 10 days) and increase your fluid intake. A sitz bath can help with the throbbing pain after a bowel movement, I used to put coconut oil in it as it helps to soothe the area and promotes healing. Also make sure you wash the area with a moisturising wash (something like E45). Hope it heals soon!

One or two sachets per day of Movicol (aka Laxido or Cosmocol). Ideally get the plain flavour version and mix with some water and juice to disguise the saltiness.

You may find you need to take one sachet per day for ever to keep your stool at the correct softness (Google the Bristol Stool Chart... you need to keep them at a number 4).

An alternative to those medications is to take a Magnesium supplement. Magnesium comes in various different forms and some are better than others for this purpose (eg: magnesium citrate).. I order Natural Calm powdered magnesium citrate on Amazon (again, unflavoured version).

Also you can try mixing a small amount of MCT Oil into your food (start with a teaspoon and build up to 1-2 tablespoons).

Also note that too much fibre can cause problems for people with dodgy bowels. And in terms of fibre sources, it's better to focus on soluble fibre (eg porridge oats) and avoid going too heavy on the insoluble fibre (weetbix, bran flakes etc).

Movicol / Laxido / Cosmocol (all the same thing but different price points) are available OTC and can also be prescribed by your GP

Dulcoease also good but I think I would start with Movicol (PEG 3350) which is more effective than Dulcoease (PEG 4000). Then you could move onto Dulcoease later for maintenance
