Maybe to much info, I’m unsure whether to book for a smear test, I’ve keep have abnormal bleeding, gone off all food as in just not hungry, and no energy at all, the thing is, is the nhs is on its knees and I don’t want to make unnecessary appointments, and also the receptionist at the doctors makes it so hard to get any sort of appointment the last time I went I was coughing up blood in front of her and she told there was no appointment and it was not an emergency ended in up hospital his was only a few months ago, I’m in my mid 30s if that make any difference
thank you for reading

OP please book an appointment for your GP tomorrow and sod the receptionist.

With all those symptoms together you should get yourself checked out.

wishuponastar1988 · 27/08/2022 01:40

Please please book a smear. It is not worth the risk or the worry of having those symptoms and not being checked out

JanglyBeads · 27/08/2022 01:59

You need more than a smear OP, a GP may want that but perhaps alongside other tests. Do you have a record of when you've been bleeding, in relation to your cycle?

NHS advice is to talk to a GP then, OP. The receptionists will book you in, maybe with a phone consultation first depending on the system at your surgery.

I hope it gets sorted.

It anyone is interested update I rang the doctors at 8 this morning wait 48 minutes for them to answer asked to book in for a smear, I was asked if I had been invited I said no so she couldn’t book me in without an invitation, I then asked could I book in with the nurse and explained why and was told no where available so asked if I could book an appointment with the gp to be told no appointments left and to try again tomorrow but I most probably won’t get an appointment as they are very busy so no idea what to do now

You can’t book a smear without being invited. You need to see a GP. Most surgeries have online booking or e consult so you don’t even need to ring, just fill it all in and it gets triaged and a doctor will call you back. I don’t know any surgeries that don’t have this now (I’m sure there are some though), have a look on their website and it should say if they have it. If not and you still can’t get an appointment tomorrow then phone and ask to speak to the practice manager.

hotelp · 30/08/2022 19:01

Smears are for asymptomatic screening. The only appropriate course of action is to actually see a GP for a full exam.

Unfortunately my doctors don’t have this yet they have sent out emails saying it will be available soon, I very much can’t as I think it’s fantastic,
@WreckTangled its very hard getting an appointment for my gp lots of new houses have gone up in the area they are over run with patient if you not at top of the answer call you miss out I will keep trying and thank you didn’t know that about smears

You definitely need to explain everything to a GP. Please keep on trying. If you don't have any luck then email the reception and ask for details on who you need to address a complaint to. That might get them to notice you.

Welpthereitis · 30/08/2022 19:14

I will keep trying the doctors, I have finally told dh who is wonderful but a worrier fingers crossed I get an appointment

WreckTangled · 30/08/2022 19:17

That’s such a shame, I have to say my surgery are fantastic and so I can’t say I have experience with this issue but I have worked in GP surgeries. Call again tomorrow and ask for an appointment. If there aren’t any on the day see if there’s any in the next week to pre book, if the answer is no ask if you can get a phone call from a GP. If they say no again ask if you can speak to the practice manager. If none of that works there should be an email address for them/complaints procedure on the website.

Welpthereitis · 30/08/2022 19:33

@WreckTangled thank you I will give all that a try I know my gp is suffering at the moment with all the new Housing (in the thousands) so appointment are scarce I’m going to try and save for a private appointment but with 3 dds and everything going up every penny counts so will take a while the nhs is all I have at the moment

Tiredmum100 · 30/08/2022 19:36

OP, you really need to see your GP with those symptoms, not just book a smear. I would be ringing 1st thing tomorrow. Doesn't matter about the new housing estate. You need to be seen.

SmallestInTheClass · 30/08/2022 19:39

Hope you get to see your GP OP. It definitely needs checking out. Better safe than sorry. I had abnormal bleeding and was sent for an ultrasound after GP examination. All fine, but was very reassured by every medical professional who I saw that I'd done the right think to get checked.

NyanBinaryJohn · 30/08/2022 19:40

With those symptoms I wouldn't ring yet again. I'd go there and refuse to leave until you've seen a GP.

Welpthereitis · 30/08/2022 20:23

after I spoke to dh the worrier he has spoken to his dad (he is an amazing person I am nc with all my family for over 15 years he has shown me what a loving family is) mil has rang me and informed me she will make and pay for a private appointment for me I’m not sure tho. These are amazing people as they have told me not to worry about how much it is and just to look after myself but I feel as tho I’m taking the pee

OP posts:
MrsPnut · 30/08/2022 20:30

You don’t need to see the GP, a nurse at the practice is more appropriate. They can take a look, take swabs and send you for an ultrasound.
It’s likely to be quicker to get an appointment with the nurse, but you need to explain that you have ongoing gynae problems that are causing you concern rather than asking for a smear test.

Welpthereitis · 30/08/2022 20:35

@MrsPnut hi I did explain to the receptionist why I need the appointment and was told there was none and told to try again tomorrow I’m going to start ringing befor 8 hopefully that will help
