Anyone with any advice re:neutropenia?

My 25 year old son has been generally unwell for the last couple of years. Abdominal pain, fatigue, bowels issues, rectal bleeding (probably from haemorrhoids), mouth ulcers and nausea. He had a colonoscopy last December to rule out ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s/bowel cancer after a positive calprotectin and is currently awaiting a gastro referral with a provisional diagnosis of severe IBS.

He had some blood tests 6 months ago privately as he was anxious and couldn’t get a GP appointment and everything was ok apart from mild neutropenia (1.72, sorry can’t remember the units but I know normal is >2).

He’s still waiting for gastro and feeling worse so had the bloods repeated and his neutrophils have now dropped to 1.37.

Dr Google obviously now has him convinced he has something serious like lymphoma but I’m aware there are other more benign causes.

Should we be contacting his NHS GP to arrange further testing? If so how urgently? he’s staying with me at the moment but his GP is in London and it’s extremely difficult to get an appointment.

As there is a proviosional diagnosis of IBS is he being treated?
I do think he should go back to his GP. Can he be assertive enough to get seen? Ask if you can go with him as a second pair of ears. I'm aware this is MN and we aren't supposed to worry about our DC once they are 18 but I'd be worried too with a 25 year old ill for two years.

I would contact his GP. It may be tricky to get an appointment but it may be possible to make some progress without a face to face appointment so an email or online request to start with may be helpful. I don’t think it’s an emergency, but I wouldn’t just leave it either.

Wouldn't say mega urgent
I have autoimmune neutropenia and was 0.3 at diagnosis, was referred to haematology and had loads of tests and now inject GCSF to try and keep my count up
I mean it's low but it's not mega low if that makes sense!

Thanks everyone. I managed to speak to a doctor at work today who also agreed not urgent but to speak to his GP. He’s going to try to get an appointment. He’s staying with me until the beginning of September but will go back sooner if it’s for an appointment. Unfortunately he lives about 250 miles away from me so I can’t go with him to appointments although I did travel down for his colonoscopy

Hi, I have just come across this thread. Any outcome for this? My 7 year old has the exact same symptoms of severe stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, lost weight, rectal bleeding, blood in stools, lethargic. With 6 months of low white blood cells (Neutrophils/lymphocytes/total WBC)
We are waiting for a haematology appointment but there is an approx wait of at least July. We are taking him private next month to have a colonoscopy/gastroscopy to rule out IBD/Crohn's etc.x
