Cateracts

My mother was diagnosed with cateracts a few years ago. She got the procedure done and she was using prescribed eyedrops since then. She woke up recently with blurry vision in that eye.

What step should she take? Should she be going to the GP for an appointment to be referred to the hospital. She was attending for hospital appointments regularly but a lot of them was cancelled.

Just wondering if the blurry ision is serious? Does the vision come back? Should she be going to the GP to get a referral quickly?

It might be quicker to book an appointment with an opticians, nor many gp surgeries have specialised equipment for diagnosing eye issues. I think opticians can refer on , but I am not really sure of that.

There's a thing that can happen a couple of years after this surgery. I believe it's easily treated. Optician would explain.

Definitely opticians as soon as possible. It probably isn’t due to the cataract surgery if it happened that quickly, but there are lots of other conditions which can cause blurry vision in older people. The majority need treating quickly to restore vision.

My mother rang the outpatients Eye clinic at the hospital where she sometimes attends to whenever she is called. She got no where on the call. She was supposed to have an appointment last week but it was cancelled from their side. Mom got a general response to say that there's more appointment letters being sent in the post.

Would going to the GP be pointless? Or would the GP be able to fast track an appointment in the hospital.

Mom is refusing to go to the GP

Opticians can refer into the eye clinic and your mother may be more willing to go there but like another poster pointed out it is common after cataract surgery and necessitates a simple laser treatment.
