Stomach ulcer - surprise

twinkleto · 24/08/2022 18:23

Hi everyone. So I've been diagnosed via endoscopy with a linear stomach ulcer. Was tested for h plylori (for the 5th time in 2 years) but negative and I don't take any NSAIDs or smoke. So pretty non existent risk factors. Has anyone else experienced this?

Crohns even!

I have this and it took 8 years to be finally diagnosed with Chrons but only in my upper digestive tract. I’ve tried cutting out every different type of food possible and still don’t know what triggers it. Omeprazole is the only thing that helps with the pain and regular iron/ blood transfusions for the anemia caused by bleeding stomach ulcers.

How long have you been suffering? One of my specialists thinks it can be triggered by a significant illness and said she was expecting to have many more patients with similar symptoms as a result of Covid.

*Crohns, sorry. Flipping autocorrect

Ive read that you can test negative for H.pylori but still have it? Also Aloe Vera juice (100% pure)on an empty stomach is meant to be good.

I have stomach ulcers without h pylori. Omeprozole has stopped them bleeding but the underlying gastritis and irritation of my stomach lining remains. They think it’s just 40 odd years of being a stressed with s sensitive stomach. They did give me the antibiotic treatment for h pylori just in case it helped. It didn’t in my case but it was good to rule it out. It’s totally bearable long term with 1 or 2 omeprozole a day.

I hate drinking milk on its own but I do find a bit of cheese when it’s acting up really settles the pain.

Thanks everyone. Yes I have wondered about Crohns but getting anywhere near a diagnosis is proving impossible.

@twinkleto unless you also have traditional symptoms of Crohn’s - intestinal cramps and sudden diarrhoea, it’s very difficult to get a diagnosis. I only really got mine once absolutely everything else had been ruled out.
