Hi all, looking for advice on hair loss. Best vitamins/diet to help combat this? I thought the hair loss was due to having my second son, but he's 2 in October and my hair is still falling out! Any advice would be great, thank you 🙏

Weight loss can also cause it, anaemia, thyroid, diabetes, peri-menopause and other health issues and deficiencies. 1st step would be having a blood test with your GP to check for the above. If all is normal, it could be stress or alopecia. Some people swear by the hair and nail supplements, but this would only be advised if everything else is clear and you already have a good diet.

Hiya! I’m going to keep an eye on this post because I’m in a similar boat. I didn’t have this level of hair loss after either of my two girls but after having my little boy 9 months ago the hair loss is relentless. As well as that, the condition is dreadful. It is so wispy and fine and I’ve no idea what to do. My hair dresser won’t even do my usual set of highlights because she said even at the root which is my natural colour, it’s so badly effected and is so fine that I’d be left bald if I had a colour put in. After washing my hair the hair brush is literally just a mass of hairs: I genuinely have no idea what to do to improve it. Hope you get sorted soon x

I normally have really good hair. It is thick and strong and there is lots of it. Recently I started losing huge amounts in the morning when I brush and even more when I wash my hair. Handfuls of it coming out clogging up the shower trap and no reason for it
I changed from using shampoo to co-washing with Garnier hair food banana hair masque and noticed an instant improvement.
I think sometimes your shampoo is the cause of excessive hair loss.
There are loads of co-wash products out there and all of them are kind to hair.
Try it just for a while and see if this makes a difference

I started using L'Occitane volume & strength shampoo. After 2 weeks the loss was down to a quarter of what is was. It has a lovely clean herby smell & makes my hair feel lovely.

My loss is down to medication and a health issue at the moment, rather than any diet deficiency.

Hello

I'm 15 months postpartum and I'm still experiencing a great amount of hair loss. 2-3 months after my son was born is when the hair loss and receding hairline started. It lasted for a couple of months and then I noticed new hair growing at the hairline. It was going well for a while and then I noticed that a lot of hair started to fall out again, especially in the shower. Not only that, I'm a curly girl but for the life of me I can't seem to find my curls!! My hair has become lump and wavy now. My hair is super fine so this hair loss really worries me. I'm still breastfeeding so I don't know if that plays a part. I don't stick to a particular shampoo and conditioner. I tend to try different ones out. I'm going to reach out to my GP for a blood test to see if I'm lacking in anything.

*limp and wavy, not lump and wavy

Have you managed to speak to your gP ? I’ve tried three times but no joy. I breast fed mine but no thinning then until menopause walloped me 😥

Hi, I've got an appointment at the GP surgery next Monday for a blood test to see if I'm deficient in anything. Once those results are back then I'll need to make an appointment with the GP to discuss the findings. A few months back my vitamin D oral spray finished and I never replaced it so I wonder if it's down to that. I am now taking vitamin D again but it's too early to tell if it's making a difference to my hair. It's definitely made a difference to my joints as they don't hurt like they did a little while ago

I’ve had major thinning and hair loss since changing my HRT meds.,

had blood tests and all are normal.,
so I started to take biotin. You can get from boots but I’m taking a professional one which is expensive and is prescribed by a nurse (or medical qualified beautician can also get it if they do Botox etc).
It’s called visvical professional. Google it. Expensive but it’s definitely working.

the loss is most likely low oestrogen levels and general hormone imbalance.

im also massaging my scalp daily.

marks snd Spencer large stores have very good beauty departments now and I discovered P Kingsley hair treatments.. amazing! good luck

Hi OP

I’ve been experiencing hair thinning over the last few years. It can be so upsetting. Tried a number of treatments over the years. They do help to a point but always good to check what the cause is.

I recently went to see a Trichologist who checked my scalp and hair health. He recommended I get blood tests with GP which I did. Although the GP said everything was fine, the Trichologist checked my results and advised me that my ferritin levels were low for hair growth and recommended the right supplements to take.

this might not be what is causing your hair loss but if it’s something you can do, I would 100% recommend seeing a Trichologist and /or getting blood test done. It will at least give you a starting point on what the cause is. I wasted so much money on different treatments over the years when it turns out all I needed was a supplement.

Also recommend watching Jo Jones and Nadine Baggott you tube video on hair loss. I found this so helpful and the reassuring.

I hope you manage to find something that helps xx

I think my hair loss was down to a lack of vitamin D after not replacing my finished bottle. After few weeks of restarting it I noticed a significant change in the amount of hair I was losing during brushing/combing. I used to dread washing my hair because it always seemed that more fell out. Now I'm happy with how my hair is and now have a 12 month supply of oral drops of vitamin D! Good luck everyone x
