dd not well, can anyone help

My dd woke up in the middle of the night last night as she had been quite badly sick. She had seemed alright in herself during the day but had refused to eat anything at lunch or dinner time (she's 17 months) all she really had yesterday were the two bottles of milk she has a day (one in the morning and one late afternoon) She was only sick once and today she seems well again and has had a bottle hardly any solid food (tried her with toast). I've just changed her nappy and she has done a very strange looking poo, it's nearly white. Do you think this is because all she is taking is milk at the moment and should I stop the milk for today? Does anyone have any experience of white poo? Quite worried, but again she seems well and happy

Sorry, no experience of white poo!. Doenst sound right though as babies who drink only milk dont have white poos. if you stop the milk, will she drink somehting else? It doenst matter if she doenst eat well for a few days but she MUST drink

thanks for replying, she has juice and clear fluids during the day anyway so I'll just up those but leave out the milk I think. You're right about it can't be the milk that made the poo that colour, but it's very strange and I am quite worried.

Always worth ringing NHS direct - that's what they're there for! It sounds like a bug to me, they often produce very pale poos which carry on even when the child's on the mend. The body clearing out the last of the bug. (Urgh!) I think you're right to up her other fluids, but I'd still give her milk if she wanted it and wasn't eating. Hope you get good advice from NHS Direct. And hope she's better soon Bonnie.

dd had this last year and her poo's were white the doc's said it was because her only intake at the time was milk - when her body was use to having solids

just logged back on. thanks so much for your replies. i phoned nhs direct ages ago and they said a nurse would call me back but they're very busy so haven't heard anything yet. Your last two replies have made me feel a lot happier. Had never seen a white poo before and got a bit freaked like I said she seems fine in herself and has gone for a sleep now as she didn't get much last night. Sure its only a bug but will speak to the nurse for reassurance. thanks again x

hi bonnieJ, how is your dd?
and how have you been managing while you dh/p is away nights?
hope all is well?

Donbean · 27/11/2004 21:43

Hi Bonnie, Sorry to hear about DD. If it makes you feel any better DS had the same thing last w/end. he was also fine in himself but vomited and would not sleep, i have been up with him all night every night for a week now, im knackered.
(he has a throat infection and cold now)
He too lived on bottles of water and dilute milk as he seemed to vomit after his bottle. He ate hardly anything for about 3 days, he ok now. The good news is that although its scary when little ones are poorly, the recover so very quickly and she will make up for her lost appitite very soon.
If you fancy a chat, im around. Take care, big hugs and kisses for DD xxxx

If the poo is like undigested milk and runny or back to pre-weaning consistancy then its cos of the milk - if its pastey and fatty then it might be temporary gluten intolerance - give her rice or corn cakes instead of toast.

IME , on some occasions when I've had a stomach upset, my poo goes pale, sometimes white afterwards.
