Anyone with PPPD (dizziness disorder)?

I initially had it really mildly after a bout of PPPV, but it's recently gotten worse. It's constant head pressure, some nausea, dizziness whenever turning my head etc. It's sucking the joy out of everything. I've started doing some vestibular rehabilitation exercises my doctor gave me over the past week but as of yet no benefit.

Anyone with any experience in this?

BPPV, sorry, not PPPV.

Basically placemarking here for tips. I have had dizziness and pain at the back of my head for over a week now - similar symptoms to what you are describing. Went to the GP this morning he basically ruled out stroke (I am also having pins and needles in my foot and leg but not sure if it is related) and I have to go back on Weds for a full bloods. He has given me a prescription for some antisickness meds in the meantime. I am slowing going mad from it all though. it is constant and awful.

I’d never heard of pppd until another post recently but I think I have this as I get vestibular migraines but feel a bit dizzy and travel sick a lot of the time. I had a good spell last year and am wondering whether it was when I was doing cold showers so starting that again. They activate the vagus nerve and after reading about pppd I can see that it might potentially help. Will give it a try and let you know how I get on.

Did the GP give you any medication?

I've had flare ups of vertigo and stemetil was a lifesaver alongside the exercises.

So got my blood tests back - all clear. GP seems inclined to think symptoms are sign of viral ear infection or similar, despite me not having any pain or anything. Going to give it another week and go back if no change. exhausted with it all now.

Hi there. How did you get diagnosed?

Cranarc · 31/08/2022 18:04

Mine came on in my mid 40s. Did not associate it with menopause at all but since going on HRT bouts have got milder and less frequent.

I used to have PPPD. I did the vestibular rehab exercises. If took several weeks to start noticing a difference. I did the exercises very frequently and I made a full recovery.

Sorry what does Pppd stand for? I have been struggling with dizziness for the last few months and sound just like OP so wondering if this might be what I have

Roselilly36 · 22/09/2022 19:49

I hate to say it, I had a dx of BPPV, many years ago, the symptoms went, and I was ok for a few years, then had more symptoms, numbness, pins and needles, urgent referral to Neurologist, mri etc. turns out I had Multiple Sclerosis. I swear the so called BPPV was an MS attack. I am sure people do have BPPV without the serious dx I had, but if symptoms change and you are concerned see GP without delay. Vertigo is debilitating. I hope your symptoms ease asap.

Starrr123 · 17/01/2023 22:30

@JS87 how are you now? X

JS87 · 18/01/2023 07:33

Not too bad thanks. I read something about not focusing on it (focus on sensation of feet on ground instead) and it seems to have eased off. Cold showers and vitamin c help I think. It’s something I’ve had for years though so don’t think it will ever go away

How are you?

Elisemp93 · 18/01/2023 11:40

I am pretty sure I have this! The docs keep going back and forth between iron deficiency (as my ferritin in low) and PPPD. Would you mind sharing what rehabilitation exercises you did please? I am desperate to feel better, it’s debilitating isn’t it 😞 glad your ok now and totally agree about focusing on it, my CBT helped me to realise that too.

dizzydizzydizzy · 18/01/2023 12:06

Hi @Elisemp93. It's really simple. Draw an X in the middle of a piece of A4. Hold it at arms length and stare it while moving your head side to side. Then you do the same while moving your bread up and down.

When this no longer makes you dizzy, try the same while walking.

I've been feeling off balance for ages now , since October time.
I. Had blocked ears a few years ago , drops helped , but they are not working at the moment.
The nurse would not syringe my ears , had to soften the wax myself with the drops from a chemist.
This was three years ago.
Last few months I've had trouble walking about , feel like I'm falling over and sort of felt a bit paralyzed at a dropped kerb , I felt I couldn't step off it without going over , it was awful
I had to make myself walk to the other side of the road carefully , luckily it wasn't a busy road
Can't walk in a straight line at times
No headaches , but I do feel sick sometimes and wobbly on my feet.
Don't feel dizzy sitting down. Ears feel sort of heavy ? If that makes any sense
Seeing the GP next week, I bet they say it's my ears again ?
Hate walking about if I'm not close to a wall or something to hold on to down the road
People are a bit baffled by my experiences!
