Bleeding Nipple

I woke up this morning to find my pyjama top covered lots of spots of blood. After checking I've found that the blood is coming from my left nipple. It's clearly been leaking in the night and when I gently squeeze it, blood is oozing out. My nipple isn't sore, neither is the rest of my beast, and I can't feel any lumps so this is totally out of the blue.

I've spoken to the doc who has asked me to come in for an examination and already confirmed she's sending me to the breast clinic for tests.

I know that some breast discharge can be normal, so trying not to worry too much. I'm 48 and my mum had terminal breast cancer in her late fifties so I guess there will always be that underlying fear of a diagnosis.

I just wanted to ask for similar stories of nipple bleeding and what the outcomes were please, I'd rather be prepared if I need to be, but would be very glad to hear some positive outcomes.

I don't have answers for you but I hope it goes well. You know it it turns out to be cancer, almost everyone survives these days.(95%). This obviously includes people whose mother had it. Good luck with your appointment.

@NamelessWalls Please don’t panic as apparently a lot of bleeding nipples are due to a benign condition called papilloma. You are doing the right thing in having it checked quickly, this is so important for everybody, females OR importantly males too. All the best x

Mine was due to duct ectasia with the help of a papilloma. Totally benign but I had the duct and the papilloma removed which was pretty minor surgery under a local (although they did try and get me to have a GA!)
