Fractured ankle - how long to heal?

Fractured my ankle whilst camping last weekend there may have been wine involved
Went to A&E and they've put it in a boot - which i'm thankful for as it's much easier to manage than a cast - and i have crutches too
But does anyone know how long to expect before I might be able to at least manage with one crutch?! Such a nightmare not being able to use my hands as well as my leg!!

The boot is to immobilise and stabilise the ankle after the break
Depends on what kind of break it was? I’d say 6-8 weeks recovery time and build up to weight bearing . Did physio give any advice.

@Zone2NorthLondon thanks for your reply! I've only been to A&E so far - they said it's a stable fracture and I have an appt at fracture clinic next week. They told me to weight bear as much as possible in the boot - which I'm trying, but sometimes can be more painful than others
I guess I'll know more next week..... I hope i do get physio, as I broke my femur about 20 years ago, and got no physio after so have been a bit wonky ever since!

Yes regard the weight bearing it gets better as you increase it, and is part of healing d will promote healing and full function

6-8 weeks for the bone to heal provided there's no medical reason, or cigarette smoking to slow it down...

6-10 weeks to return to driving and all day-to -day activities

12-16 weeks for full return to sports, physical recreation / hobbies and manual jobs.

You may still get the odd twinge for up to 12 months.

There's a very small chance of having an associated injury like a ligament tear, tendon injury or osteochondral lesion which may slow things down, or require additional treatment.

Yup, I was told 6-8 weeks for a stable fracture in a boot (but I had ligament damage too and that took waaaay longer to heal than the fracture)
good luck 🍀

Thanks all - I'm hoping for nearer the 6 week mark - for driving more than anything else! No concerns on the sports / physical activity front!!
I have an appt at the fracture clinic next week, so hopefully xrays will show the break has remained stable 🤞 I don't think there's ligament damage - well they haven't said that so far anyway!!
Really appreciate all your replies 😊

Hi Doris. I am in this position now and waiting for X-ray to see if it’s stable. Just wondered how you are getting on ?
