Has anyone had a child’s milk tooth turn grey?

I’ve just emailed the dentist to see if it requires an emergency appointment?

I can remember he had a trauma to one of his top teeth on holiday a few weeks ago. No bleeding or wobbling, but it took a bump. I noticed today that one tooth is now grey and Google tells me it could go back to its natural colour again or it could require removal.

Anyone had similar and could relay how it panned out for their child?

thank you.

My daughters went grey after she collided with another child and her gum also went black with bruising.
if I recall the greyness did go away after a few months but the knock to her gum meant the adult tooth came down behind her others so her had a plate to push it forward.

Grey usually means it’s dead. It will probably fall out.

Yes, one of my son’s top front teeth was discoloured after he fell over at pre-school. It fell out as normal when his adult tooth came through and the adult tooth is perfect.

My son's front tooth turned grey after he banged it. I'd read online it would eventually go back white but the dentist recently confirmed it was actually dead and would stay grey. Dentist said it could stay in his gum until his adult tooth comes through, could fall out, or may have to be removed if it begins to cause pain/or gets infected.

It’s almost transparent looking. Hate the thought he might need it pulled so I’m grateful for those just saying things carried on as normal.

My son ha a trauma to his front top tooth which slowly turned grey then brown, eventually it fell out. The dentist was reluctant to do anything to intervene

This happened to my DS big bang to the face and the tooth was pushed out of place went grey and died. Tooth fell out as normal when his adult teeth came in. Dentist had said it may have affected the adult tooth but it was fine.

This happened to one of my DDs top front teeth. She fell over as a toddler and bashed it. The dentist said there may be an issue with the adult tooth but they couldn't tell until it grew. It fell out as normal just before she turned 7 but took about 9-10 for the adult tooth to come through. But it was fine when it did.

Marilla1966 · 18/08/2022 17:27

My DDs front tooth went grey when she knocked it badly. Dentist said it could stay like it or go back to its normal colour. A
few months later we noticed it wasn’t grey anymore. Not exactly the same colour as the other front tooth but barely noticeable. She is 7 now and it still hasn’t fallen out x

My sister fell on her face in a playground when she was about two and the front tooth went grey. The dentist confirmed it had died and it stayed grey until it fell out at the usual time. The second tooth was fine except, like a pp, it was further back in the mouth than it should have been and she had a plate with a spring on it to push it forward. I had never associated it with the dead tooth as I had same problem with the same solution with my side incisor and never banged that tooth. I think it was more of a genetic thing. We are in our fifties now and those particular teeth are absolutely fine.

This happened to DD when she was a baby after a fall. It stayed grey but fell out at the usual time and there was no problem with its replacement.

Tanfastic · 18/08/2022 19:53

My son had a fall and his turned grey until it eventually fell out. I'd leave it be.

clipclop5 · 18/08/2022 23:53

DDs went grey after falling face first onto the floor... It stayed that colour until it fell out naturally but otherwise caused no other issues. Adult tooth underneath was perfectly healthy and grew in normally.

Chocolatiestchocolate · 19/08/2022 00:00

My DS whacked his tooth on a water slide when he was 4 and it went grey. After around 6 months it lightened a bit but was always slightly grey compared to the other. It fell out in the normal sequence when he was 6 and the adult tooth has grown in fine.

Hi! Could you possibly provide an update on what happened? My DD is going through the same thing right now.
