my daughter had a constant cough for weeks took her to gp on 3rd jan... he prescribed and inhaler for bedtime.... but she is no better.... she is off school today and going to gp at 11....

i am so worried about her, as her breathing is so shallow.... she loves gong on scooter and bike but hasnt been able to the last few months as she gets so breathless...

we had a humidifier when she was a baby, as she had bad cold... but i have tried it and it doesnt work... i am really broke , but i do have a stash of £2.00 coins in a terramundi.. so i am wondering whether it is worth using this money.... and will it help... payday is another 1.5 away..

thankyou

Hi, ds has a brown inhaler morning and night. He's had it since he was 18 months.

He is so used to taking it. He did get upset at first but soon got the hang of it.

He has the blue one when he is coughing badly. Usually after running, trampolene and sometimes at nights. He's worse during and after he's had a cold or virus.

I put the humidifier on at bedtime when he's coughing a lot. It does make the floor damp so I put a few towels on the floor. And you get condensation on the inside of windows in the morning.

We have no asthma in family either.

Hope you get on ok

Oh and he has an allergy safe pillow and duvet.

I make sure I hoover a lot and I hoover his matress. Wash his bedding on high temp to kill dust mites which can trigger some asthmas. Try not to hoover when she is around though as it makes the dust fly up.

I also wet dust his room as it gets rid of more dust.

Another idea is to keep as few fluffy toys in the bed as possible. These can go in the frezzer in plastic bags to kill dust mites.

Hi , Thats ok. Thats what MN is all about.

Yes its on all night. I think it switches itself on and off during the night. Not sure why or how that works though.

It looks like a kettle and just puffs out mist to make the air damp. I'm not very technical, sorry!
We don't have the heating on at night. Don't know about storage heating . Sorry

chocolatespiders · 21/01/2008 14:20

ok i will just leave it all all night

it is on now as dd is so tired from her disturbed nights so she is sleeping.... and has not yet coughed....

i will search you out if i need any more info...

got to go back to gp next week, he was very good he printed me out some info for me to read..

When DS1 had trouble breathing in the night when he was about 6 months old - my HV recommended getting an old kettle and boiling it in the room a few times.

JossStick · 21/01/2008 14:23

Just seen he's 4 though!

Perhaps you do need a safer option!

JossStick · 21/01/2008 14:25

SHE's 4 i meant (brain collapses).

princessmel · 21/01/2008 14:31

Yes we used to put pans of boiling water round the cot. Once they are in a bed its too dangerous obviously.
