Panic attack after run?

I went running last night (for the first time since the pandemic!) But I do exercise regularly so I'm not totally unfit. Well since then I've been feeling progressively worse. My heart has not stopped pounding since then, pulse is 100 and I feel very off and shaky. I think I might be having a panic attack. What should I do?

It would be very unusual for a panic attack or even a heightened state of anxiety/panic that is enough to affect your heart rate go on for that long.

Do you have a history of anxiety and/or panic attacks?

I would seek medical attention, it's really not something to mess around with. If it's anxiety then it's good that you've ruled other things out.

I don't think I'm anxious but my heart is pounding like like I've had ten cups of coffee.

Phone 111 who will probably tell you to go to a&e. Do go, it could be all sorts of things, or nothing. But get checked out because if it is something you could get seriously hurt.

A housemate of mine in our early 20s crashed his car on a motorway due to his body being unable to stop fast heartrate, he essentially fainted at the wheel because of it. Pacemaker gadget fitted and normal life resumed.

I phoned 111 who did advise A&E but I didn't go. The reason is I have a condition that I find it very hard for them to take seriously that sends me to A&E about once a year and I can't have them start thinking I'm a hypochondriac, it is hard enough to get them to take me seriously as it is. Also I was feeling too ill to go if that makes sense.

I searched some more and self-diagnosed that it was hypoglycaemia. I don't keep sugar and sweets in the house but I had some pomegranate molasses and that made me better and stop shaking, my heart rate went back to normal fairly quickly. It wasn't a nice experience at all, I felt like I was going to pass out as it progressed. 😕

Online it says non-diabetics don't get hypoglycaemia so I don't understand why this has happened. 🤔

Also I had about a third of a bottle of pomegranate molasses, totally wiping out any gains from the run! 😆

Your blood sugar can go through variations without being diabetic though.

It feels like it's starting up again, can't think why.

OP, you have been advised to go to A & E so please go.

You are not wasting their time.

A heart rate of 100bpm is higher than normal but not excessively fast.

They may set you up with a 24 hour heart monitor.
