Would I be able to feel a fibroid that is this big?

I've been diagnosed with fibroids. Had a scan after quite a few years now of very heavy periods - linked to peri menopause as I'm 50

Just the one fibroid was found and it's just a touch under an inch in size. I'm sure I can feel it. Not with my fingers from the outside but it twinges quite a bit from time to time. Can't think it can be anything else as it's definitely in the exact area the fibroid is!

So my question is - is it possible to have some pain and discomfort from a fibroid that's only a inch big?

I could feel mine, it felt enormous ( though it was 5cms). I also had 5 others, though I didn’t know that until after my hysterectomy which put an end to the horrendous exhaustion and heavy bleeding, highly recommend.

That's a really interesting question - I was expecting this to be about feeling it from the outside (I can, it is NOT nice but it's also 6 times the size of yours). And was that size or not far off when I started with symptoms.

I'm not really aware of any twinges, I don't think. Not in the big one. That just feels heavy. But there's another one near my cervix that I sometimes think I become aware of. I say think as the location of that one is less obvious - it's smaller and in my pelvis.

So in my experience, no, not really but I'm sure I'll be looking out for it now

@ConfusedGin oh I'm sure that yours will certainly be making themselves known if you have a couple and they're bigger than an inch. They're such a pain aren't they?

Im sure I only have the one and although I know it's small, an inch still feels big to me!

Definitely can't feel it from the outside

GP could feel mine on palpitation. GP said it's quite large but she didn't give a size. I can't find it, though.

I get a scan tomorrow (exciting) and will see what they find. Presumably the radiographer will say something at the time about what they do or don't see.

@UxbridgeVoteBJOut In my experience, the sonographer didn't give anything away at all. A bit of moving, some typing but nothing was said and I couldn't read anything. You may get more out of them, but all they are likely to say is that the findings need to be reviewed by the specialist.

My GP called me to confirm the results "fibroids and a bulky uterus" which was charming! It was only when I saw the consultant 6 months later that I got to learn the size and position of them.

My main one is now pretty obvious (I've lost a lot of weight which will have contributed to this I'm sure) to the point that I look pregnant when I lie down. Such fun

Interesting... thanks for info. The wait for gynae appts here with specialist are running about 13months (on average, much mentioned in local newspapers). I hope that at least a preliminary opinion on what scan said can be available sooner than that.

Update: radiographer today did give me quite a bit of info, said he'd tell me exactly what he'd put in his report and why. The appt was tremendously efficient, literally < 20 minutes from getting out of car to driving away. And nothing suspicious found, bonus :). I have too many (very small) fibroids to count. He said they would sort of recede after i became properly post-menopausal.

@UxbridgeVoteBJOut I'm glad you got more information and a positive experience. The wait for gynaecology appointments is mad at the moment so at least you have peace of mind.

I'm starting a (hopefully) temporary menopause soon to try and shrink my beast of a fibroid down pre op
