I am booked to have the above in November and I'm really scared about it mainly putting aside the actual embarrassment of it but the after pains and recovery and if I will be unlucky and it will actually be worse.
I don't have any pain now they only flare up when pregnant but when I am it is BAD like horrific and get thrombosed.
I hope to have 1 or 2 more children but the surgeon said getting them done inbetween was a good idea I also worry they will just come back in next pregnancy??

Are you awake or asleep for the surgery?
How bad is the recovery?
Will I be ok looking after my children solo my husband works away but obviously would be around for a few days but he's self employed so the least time the better

Thanks @Yesthatismychildsigh did you have any help after if you had children x

This was only 18 months ago, my children are adults. I’d probably have wanted someone there for a day or so, with just a bit of help, but that was it.

This has scared me so much @Molecule I do appreciate your honesty but I just don't know what to do

Your experience sounds so so different to the poster below @Yesthatismychildsigh @Molecule I wish I knew which one mine would be

@Molecule were yours internal? Because mine aren't

If it helps, mine weren’t internal.

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 19/08/2022 17:50

@mrssunshinexxx Did the nurse tell you what type of operation you would have? Like I said in my post, there's various types and some are much more painful than others

@Molecule Sounds like your experience was similar to mine. And yes to the skinny poos for ages Blush

Molecule · 19/08/2022 21:10

@mrssunshinexxx yes mine were internal. Guess that makes a huge difference. I would though, interrogate the surgeon about the expected pain levels, esp internal v external.

HonestButFair · 17/07/2023 22:28

Where did you get it done? Private?

FarmerGyles · 18/07/2023 10:10

@Molecule Your experience sounds awful! Poor you. I fear I need this too, mine are internal- they don’t cause me pain they just prolapse when I have a BM and need to be pushed back up (tmi, sorry)
Were you offered any alternatives first, like banding or injections (halo etc?)
I know this is an old thread but would appreciate any advice. Got a referral letter from my GP and need to find a private specialist. From what the GP said they don’t really treat on the NHS.

Molecule · 22/07/2023 09:36

@FarmerGyles it was so long ago that I can’t really remember - pretty sure banding was mentioned as being easier, but with the caveat that it wasn’t a permanent solution so I thought I’d go for the haemorrhoidectomy. I have to say though that they have not returned and I had the operation in 2009.

But do ask about the pain levels, lying on the sofa a 2am having spasms of total agony following an evening poo is not something I wish to repeat.
