Stabbing pain left ribs

The past few days I've had random stabbing/twinge type pain in my left ribs below my left breast. They came on very suddenly on Thursday and have continued with no particular pattern since. On Thursday evening it was pretty painful. The pain has subsided a bit now but it's still happening and still hurts. It almost seems like an painful nerve twitch or something. It only hurts when it twitches.

Has anyone had similar before? It's new to me and can't get in at the Dr's until Friday. I do have a hiatus hernia so was wondering if it's something to do with that but it's never caused pain like this before. My stomach is not great atm, I had a stomach bug a few weeks ago and I'm bloated all the time.

It's causing me quite a lot of anxiety so any advice would be great.

Precordial catch syndrome? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precordialcatchsyndrome

I usually find that inhaling really deeply seems to release the catch and stop it from hurting.

@ParasiticMicrowasp it sounds similar to that. The article seems to suggest it happens when breathing in. It doesn't happen when I breath in though, it occurs out of nowhere but I think when it gets set off it might hurt more when I inhale, I'm not 100% sure though. It's bizarre!

Firstly, if the pain gets worse, I would try and move that appointment forward by calling 111.

Have you tried to restore balance to your gut after the stomach bug by eating foods with pre and pro-biotics or by drinking kombucha, kefir etc? Have you any signs or acid reflux or heartburn?

I like the advice of breathing exercises above. They can help a variety of different heath issues, including the anxiety.

I hope you feel better soon. It's hard not to think the worst sometimes, especially when suffering health anxiety but the likelihood is it's something that will clear up soon naturally. Rest, stretch, drink water and breathe and if you start to feel worse, call 111

I think I'll bob to the walk in centre today to rule out anything serious. It doesn't seem to be getting worse but is persisting. I've been very stressed lately and been having palpitations. I have suffered with heartburn and reflux a lot because of hiatus hernia. I might have to go back on reflux meds.
