15 year old daughter and pituitary gland

Hello… so I’m stressed! My daughter , 15 has not had any periods. Consultant thought it might be pcos but after scans and taking repeat bloods now believes it’s more likely to be a benign tumour in the pituitary gland. Im now as you can imagine a tad stressed. Any advice. Anyone had similar. We are another consultant next week ..
thanks.

I have a benign pituitary tumor. It causes some problems which are controlled with medication. I don't have experience of the same issues as your daughter but thought I'd post to hopefully bump up more responses for you.

I presume she's seeing an endocrinologist?

Hi thanks!
she’s not actually… the first consultant said she is too young to see an endocrinologist so has referred us to a paediatrician. But I’ve been looking online and found paediatrician endocrinologists in London… so not sure whether to wait for our appointment on Tuesday or just try and get an appointment with the one in London!

My periods stopped in my 20s due to a benign pituitary tumour. I was given some medication and it was all sorted out quickly and easily. Periods have been regular again for the past 20 years. But you definitely need to see an endocrine specialist and she will need an MRI. It's more common than you think, and I've had no further effects. Good luck!

Of course you are stressed. My son had a pituitary tumour. I'd like to say your daughter is absolutely not too young to see an endocrinologist. My son has seen one since he was 3. If you can arrange a private appointment sooner, I would just make an appointment with one & try to expedite the MRI.

My periods stopped when I was 16 and after Pcos etc was ruled out I was told I probably had a tumour on my pituitary gland. I didn't, turned out it was my hypothalamus that had the problem. Your daughter definitely isn't too young to see an endocrinologist, I'd try to insist she's referred to one. Hope everything works out ok for her.

Just seen you have an appointment on Tuesday with a pediatrician. That's brilliant, ask them if your daughter needs to see an endocrinologist and ask they refer her on.

I also have a tumour on my pituitary gland. She does need to see an endocrinologist, and lack of periods suggests that the tumour is either producing or causing increased prolactin - has she had blood tests to check this? She'll likely be feeling tired, her emotions closer to the surface and she might be struggling to concentrate and think clearly. It can cause weight gain too.

Be aware that different pituitary tumours depending on their size, type and location can cause different conditions as a result. Some
People just have one thing eg increased prolactin, others have more.

You do need a good endocrinologist as these conditions aren't well understood. Often by endocrinologists also as they tend to have specialisms in one or two aspects of endocrine tumours.

Good luck

Hope your son is all good now. I’ve found fb a couple in London so will give them a call Monday morning. Thanks for the response.

Yes all her bloods have come back very elevated.and the symptoms uou have described do sound like her.. I always put the moods down to her age but now starting to think differently. Monday I shall try and find one. Thanks for the response.
