Pleae help can't get rid of dd's thrush

Dd is 2 and still in nappies she has had thrush for a month now. She is now in disposable nappies and has been given canesten HC by the dr to be applied twice per day and go back in 2 weeks if it hasn't significantly improved.

Well since starting on the new cream and wearing disposables it's got worse!!! I can't attempt potty training for a couple of weeks as I'm away one of the weeks and she is going to be looked after by various people none of home have young children anymore so will not inflict it on them.

She is bright red and sometimes has discharge

Is it worth giving her bio yoghurt (if she'll take it!) or those drinks etc etc Any other ideas?????? I am down to the last bit of normal canestan which we were putting on most nappy changes - was this too often or shall I go get more and use this all nappy changes apart from the twice per day I use the HC version.

This is a really tough one, I've been there. My DD has to be on long-term, low-dose antibiotics so often develops thrush, but I do find the canesten clears it up. I've been told that probiotics (like acidophilus powder) are good, I'm sure bio-yoghurt is also recommended. There are other dietary measures you can take to reduce candidiasis (thrush - too much candida albicans in the gut), but you should google that and get better advice than I can give.

As much nappy free time as possible and do get back to the GP - a month is a long time.

Good luck

Anyone else with any advice/experience - is acidophilus powder something you buy over the counter does it have a brand name?

You can get acidophilus powder from a health food shop like Holland and Barratt. I remember giving it to my son when he was quite a young baby, on the advice of a homeopath as he'd also been on antibiotics.

you can buy acidophilus tablets in Holland & Barrett. I took them when I went to India to try and save my tummy from bugs.

If you think your dd won't eat yoghurt, try Yeo Valley Organic Bio yoghurt - it's very creamy my ds who's 2 loves it. Either plain or with a teaspoon of honey stirred in! I give him his own portion in a plastic cup so it's like eating a fruit yoghurt!
