all that - and they get more uncomfortable when lying down, too, which accounts for the bad sleeping. I would take her straight to the Dr asap - call out-of-hours for a prescription if needs be - ear infections can flare up very quickly, and can be really painful. DS eventually had a perforated eardrum and pus coming out....

joash · 26/11/2004 15:54

Yeah, second that. Get her ears checked out. There does seem to be a generic number of symptoms, but MNers should also be aware that it is possible to have ear infections and demonstrate no symptoms as we've experienced recently.

fisil · 26/11/2004 16:35

Blu, oh bugger, I thought that was the sign of an ear infection! Both times ds has had one we knew what it was because of the puss pouring out of his ear! What a bad mum I am. It's nice when the eardrum does blow because the pain stops!

This time I also saw a watery liquid in his ear about 12 hours before it burst. And the first time it happened he crawled around crying with his ear held to the ground.

Blu · 26/11/2004 16:41

Lilsmum - sorry if I have panicked you. It might be worth calling your out of hours doctors number - if you talk to them and they think she has got an ear infection, they can sometimes fax a prescription to your nearest all-night chemist. Or come and see her, if you're in a really good NHS area. Otherwise, keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't get worse over night and take her first thing in the morning.

Fisil - oh, I know, I know - DS was tearing round beside himself with pain before the penny dropped with us.

codswallop · 26/11/2004 16:46

well went to g.p he said her ears are clear but she has a red throat which is prob a viral thing...so i guess it down to nasty teething.

thanks everyone, any advice on how to get her to eat would be a god send tho!!!

Phew - really pleased to hear she hasn't got an ear infection. Sorry for worrying you - but it's worth checking.

Don't worry too much if she doesn't eat (tho we all do), just keep getting fluids into her. Hope she feels better soon - she'll wolf down everything in front of her once she recovers, and regain her strength v quickly, honest!

lilsmum · 26/11/2004 19:22

thanks blu, im glad it isnt her ears (earache is so awful!!) and just hope she back to normal soon.. fingers crossed!!

How is she now, Lilsmum? Is she getting better?

alicatsg · 30/11/2004 15:11

Lilsmum - jelly is the answer in our house. make it with apple juice and chopped up fruit and some of that leaf gelatine rather than the sugar loaded stuff and its not that unhealthy. DS only eats this when he's suffering with ears/throat, everything else causes meltdown.

lilsmum · 30/11/2004 15:11

thanks blu yes she is back to her old self (thank god) it turned out to be a virus!! but she went off her food 1st she is finally eating well again, thing is she only vomited twice!! very strange.. no runny nappies or anything but sun night she ran a temp of 39.4!!

thanks for asking xxx
