Urology - choosing between Frimley and Epsom/St Helier hospitals for an op

Hi there, my husband needs an operation, not urgent but will need general etc. and my new GP has asked which hospital we would like to be referred to. We have just moved roughly between the two hospitals and have no idea which to choose (although I didn't have the best time at Frimley A&E recently but obviously it's not the same dept. Epsom also comes higher in some scales for general outcomes/waiting lists etc. If anyone had any advice it would be very gratefully received!

Rather than the hospital, I would find out who the Urologists are who work in each hospital and do they have the expertise in the area your husband needs his op. Eg kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, penile, testes

Frimley park: www.fhft.nhs.uk/services/urology/
Epsom: www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/urology

Absolutely agree with the above. You can usually find out quite easily online a particular consultant’s specific interests/areas of expertise.

Thanks so much for your replies but I am actually struggling to do this. The Frimley site has specialisms under each consultants name but the Epsom one doesn't and the procedure (epididymal cysts removal) isn't always showing as a speciality but I am guessing may be included under general surgery etc.

I was really hoping someone more medical than me or knowledge of the two hospitals might post...

I think that just comes under general urology. I'm surprised a general has been suggested as they're often performed under a local anaesthetic. I would think that it's classed as a routine urological surgery, so wouldn't need a surgeon with any additional specialist interest. Cancer nurse looking after urology patients for full disclosure, although I primarily work outside of the general urology dept etc.

Agree with pp.
Although if you're after local reputations, I don't know anything about Epsom but Frimley has a good rep. No personal experience though.

I am not medical, but I will not set foot in Frimley again due to a bad experience at A & E and a worse experience in another department which led to us having to lay an official complaint. I will never recover from it and yet the hospital doesn’t care. I have had much better luck at St Peter’s Hospital nearby. We fall under a few hospitals in our area, including the two you mentioned. Hoping you get sorted soon.
