Hi can someone help pls,

I had 3 stitches on my lower leg last night. Only a small incision for a biopsy. I have woke up this morning and it hurts so so much. I have never had stitches before so just wondering if this kind of pain is normal ? Can’t see them as they are covered and have to be for 2 days

thanks

Have you taken any painkillers ?

Ama9332 · 05/08/2022 08:38

@KangarooKenny Yes I have taken paracetamol. It’s like a pinching then a throbbing sore sensation.

Sounds like it’s swollen and pulling at the stitches. Can you have a peek under the dressing to check for infection ?

Threeboysandadog · 05/08/2022 20:50

I had a biopsy and two stitches on my arm. I didn’t have any pain at all. I agree with KangarooKenny, have a check under the dressing and make sure it’s not red, swollen or leaking pus. If you are worried ask if the nurse at your surgery ar a pharmacist could take a look at it.

I've had lots of stitches in my arm recently and have only needed paracetamol for about 24 hours. Then they've only hurt when I've slept on them or someone has touched them. Maybe worth getting checked out?

@KangarooKenny @Threeboysandadog @CheshireSplat I have just taken it off and it looks like this sorry for the graphic photo. I have lightly showered it with shower gel like the doctor advised after 2 days but it’s really stinging now since I’ve dried it. The pain was completely gone this morning but as I move around in the day it hurts. They have taken quite a chunk out of my leg it’s very indented from the side view.

That’s a bigger wound than I had. The stitches look as if they are quite tight but it looks clean. Are you able to take it easy for a couple of days and rest it a wee bit or is that a silly question? I would keep an eye on it for any redness, swelling or leaking and if you’re worried, ask to see the practice nurse at your surgery. I suspect the pain is due to the stitches and the size/depth of the wound. I hope it improves soon.

It looks nice and clean. Keep it clean and dry, and watch out for infection.

I've had stitches a few times and to be honest it always hurt - not much comfort I know- it does look clean and not inflamed though

Thanks for your replies. Was really itchy through the night I’ve just looked at it and it’s bled it’s got dry blood on it and the plaster. Is this bad after 3 days should I speak to someone?

I had a biopsy from the palm of my hand a couple of years ago and four stitches and it was quite painful for the first 48hrs. I think it was from the bruising coming out.

This was mine after three days it was oozy and bled a bit. Have you put any Vaseline on it? They told me to use it and it helped. I think you should be okay if it’s not gaping or very much blood.
