poor ds2 (8) he has a headache and bad chest, and a temperature that i am giving calpol and neurofen for but is still not really going down much.

it goes from 39 down to 38 but he's still really poorly and shivery.

the doctor saw him this afternoon and thought it was probably a flu type virus but has given antibiotics just in case as he has a lowered immune system.

but, i have never seen him so poorly and i don't know what else i can do

Tepid sponging to help to bring down his temp?

ice lollies?

cheeryface · 19/01/2008 19:59

have got dh sponging him now. he's been like this since last night. bit worried it might turn out to be measles or something vile.

hope he's better tomorrow

Hi Cheery,..
Poor you and I know how you feel, there's been a thread on high temps earlier today....
here
Not much we can do, keep giving him his medicine, keep them cool (ds2 has been naked all day, still is!) and sit it out,.. worrying though isn't it
oh, I've been giving mine ice chips to suck, he seems to like that.

Blandmum · 19/01/2008 20:00

I haven't tried them, so I can't say how good they are, but there are those cool packs to put on the forehead?

cheeryface · 19/01/2008 20:06

it is worrying ingles. i hate it when they are ill. my son is whimpering and shaking too. hows your boy now?

i might go and hunt down some of those forehead things tomorrow mb

He's ok.. dosed up to the eyeballs, temp 38 at 8pm but eating some dinner so can't be that bad! stopped shaking since I took Twigglets advice on the other thread and have been giving him Nurofen and Calpol alternately.
we tried one of those cool pads from boots today, seemed to work for a little while.

Oh, poor you Pod, especially with no dh. Hope you have a reasonable night.

Blandmum · 19/01/2008 20:24

tepid flannel or other cloth on the forehead can help to reduce the temp a little ,and can be soothing if they have a headache

cheeryface · 19/01/2008 20:37

poor podmog. it must be horrendous on your own! will you have anyone to help with the others should you need to go to casualty?

i can't believe after dosing him up on calpol and neurofen that ds2 is still shaking and shivering!
his eyes look all pink too.

ds2 has mild asthma but the doctor today said he would probably be o.k on the neurofen, seems to be no worse for it anyway.

do you all put poorly kids in their own rooms at night ? i am worrying that i should sleep with him tonight??
