I need advice regarding colour of DS's poo

I changed DS's nappy and his poo is red. It's not bright red but more of a pinkish/light red colour. This is the second time I have noticed this, I noticed it a few months back.

I know he hasn't eaten anything red. Can anyone tell me why his poo could be this colour? I am very concerned.

I thought of taking him to A&E but realistically there is probably nothing they could do - I mean the pathologists don't work weekends do they? No doubt they would want a stool sample. So I am going to take him to my GP on Monday. I just want some reassurance.

my friend's dd had this. She took a stool sample to the GP only to be told it was food colouring from jelly.

Take him to the gp's on monday, most likely it's nothing, but it's good it's good to get it checked out. Is he well apart from that?

Yes he is fine other than the poo.

Thanks.

has he been constipated recently? Hard poo can sometimes cause tiny cuts that can bleed, making the poo red.

No, he hasn't been constipated. I didn't realise red jelly can make poo red. He went to a party yesturday and possibly had jelly I will ask DH when he phones. (DH took him).

the chances are it is food colouring. A babies digestive tract isn't fully mature and they don't digest things the way adults do.

baby's not babies

Thanks belgo - could be the jelly then.

Some anti biotics can also make the poo red.
