And we went to see our newborn neice yesterday who is already poorly with a chest infection

I have looked it up and it says babies are normally immune for the 1st year as they get antibodies while in the womb but still a worry.

Ds1 is 14 montsh, do you think he will get it? I am still b/f so hoping not.

Oh bugger! Why is it you just get the kids back to school and then they get ill

many babies get chicken pox, even if they are breastfed. You need to let your neice's family know, as chicken pox can be very dangerous for a newborn baby.

And my breastfed 16 month old cauget chicken pox.

RubberDuck · 19/01/2008 10:52

Please warn your niece's parents - the baby will be given an antibody injection to prevent or reduce the severity of infection. Chickenpox in such a young baby can be very nasty, so do encourage them to contact their midwife asap.

Not sure about your ds1 - the poor siblings tend to get a worse dose as they've been exposed for longer, but the b/f may well counteract that a little. I expect he may still get it though, so stock up now!

Have told my sister in law straight away.

Poor dd4 has spots appearing all over the place, she keeps checking herself in the mirror.

Dh thinks it will be better for ds1 to get it now so its all out of the way but I am goignt to go stir crazy if I have to stay at home for weeks. Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh

my ds had it at 5 1/2 months but thankfully was not too bad with it - dd (4) who gave it to him was a nightmare with it though!!

Empathies!

DD1 is just now getting over it - blisters are finally all crusting over and she started getting them a week ago Thursday.

In her, she incubated it for ages, because she picked up in nursery before they finished for Xmas 21 December.

Just waiting for DD2, age 2, to come out with it.

magnolia74 · 19/01/2008 20:24

She has come out in so many spots bless her, I was puting calamine lotion on and when I had finished more were appearing!!
One very close to her eye though is that anything to worry about?

not really, so long as she doesn't scratch it.

we used Eurax and calamine cream - easier to apply.

oh, and Piriton syrup, plus Calpol and Nurofen in case she gets a fever.

those blisters become so annoying and itchy once they crust over.

magnolia74 · 19/01/2008 20:41

Have given her piriton tonight, they are just starting to crust over so the next few days will be fun
