IBD or…?

My daughter 17 has been suffering from stomach pain after eating for about 2 months and then needing to do a poo immediately. She is pooling more frequently, always in pain.

GP has done blood tests and stool test. Bloods normal. Stool showing slightly raised inflammation markers. Has examined her and referred for a scan but haven’t heard anything yet. GP hopeful it’s a bug that is taking a while to settle down. Recommended dairy free which she’s done for about a week with some improvement but not much.

we’ve just had dinner and she’s asked for ibuprofen as her stomach is so sore after going to the loo. She will call the GP again on Monday as it seems to be getting worse.

does anybody have any tips, ideas, experience please?

Not sure about anything else but do not give ibuprofen to someone with stomach issues

Do not let her ibuprofen!!! That can cause ulcers and if she has IBD it can make symptoms worse. Paracetamol only.

Sorry, yes I do actually know that stupid error!

Is it happening every time she eats, no matter what she's eating or is it sometimes but not every time? If the latter then I would start a food diary and see if she can find a pattern.

There’s no real way of knowing until she’s had a colonoscopy.
As the others have said, sat away from anti-inflammatories. Buscapan can help with the cramping.
Everyones different with IBD but I find a beige diet helps me settle when I’m bad.

Could also be coeliac if inflammation makers (by this are you referring to calprotectin?) are raised but not significantly so. Sounds like she needs a colonoscopy. I hope you get some answers soon.
