Unexplained bruising

This appeared out of nowhere yesterday on the top of my thigh, i walked past my floor length mirror on the landing on the way to bed and frightened myself to death and slapped it because I thought it was a spider.

My memory has gone bad since baby, I’m three months post partum FTM but i known damn well I haven’t bashed myself on anything and it doesn’t even hurt to touch! I am flummoxed!

I’m not on any sort of medication, to rule that out, it’s 4 inches wide and two inches down so quite sizeable to have appeared. Anyone had this? I’ll be calling the GP on Monday anyway but i just don’t want to be fobbed off if it needs attention. Thanks ladies x

I have bruises appear like that all the time. I always just assume I must of bumped it and not realised. I had much worse ones too. I never give it much thought really. Not very helpful, but I think it happens to everyone.

That does look a nasty one. Could be a vitamin deficiency?

Coralcloud1990 · 30/07/2022 21:51

Unexplained bruising is something that always be checked by a doctor, who should arrange blood tests, including afull blood count.

Chances are its something and nothing, but there are a couple of more serious conditions that need to be ruled out.

Postpartum its difficult to be sure (as there are so many changes postpartum) but do also mention if you have weakness or fatigue, other different bleeding (gums, nosebleeds), unexplained weightloss, frequent infections or infections that are hard to shift, swollen lymph nodes, breathlessness, bone pain

I have no idea how or what caused the bruise, but it looks like a fish 🐟

The doctor should do blood tests to check your platelets.

I had random bruising appear a few weeks ago on top of my thighs in 4/5 different places . I was so worried . My gp was on leave and I got a different one on phone who said I was just panicking for no reason and legs bruises are not cause for concern . I have health anxiety too so think she just read my notes and saw that and that was it. Did not even ask to see my bruises . So I phoned my usual gp when she was back who did bloods without any issue .

So far all is ok but not had my iron level back . I am 50 and she said hormones can cause easy bruising so might be same after having a baby .

I get unexplained bruising too, on my legs and stomach and sometimes my breasts. I had a load of tests that found nothing. My GP is of the belief that I pinch myself in my sleep - I wake up with bruises that weren't there the night before. I don't have bruises appear when sharing a bed with my boyfriend, who sleeps with his arm around me so I can't move easily, so there could be something in that.

My daughter started getting massive bruises for no reason. GP sent her straight to hospital as her platelet count was zero so her blood couldn't clot. She was diagnosed with ITP brought on by having a regular cold a few weeks before.
