Lower back pain every morning

9 replies

frazzled101 · 30/07/2022 14:39

I wake up every morning with a really sore lower back. I have 2 small children so the initial lifting I do with them in the morning is so painful.

The more I move around, the quicker the pain goes away. I'll then be fine until the next morning. I'm due to go back to a desk based job in November and I think being stationary will kill me!

I think the mattress is fine, and I'm afraid to buy a new one in case it's not the problem.

I've tried sleeping on my side with a pillow between my knees and it made no difference. I swim once a week and thought that would help but it hasn't.

Anyone else have this? Im 38.

Maybe strengthening your core will improve things but it would be worth looking into a new mattress. Are you going away at all? If you stay some for several nights and don’t wake with much back pain then you may have your answer.

@LetMeInYourWindow thank you.

I was away for 1 night recently but had a lot to drink and only 5 hours in bed!! No trips away coming up for quite some time!

Look up MuTu mamas - some great core routines for free without signing up. Epsom salt baths could help, could well be your back. Some shops do a type of body scan as you lie on a bed then recommend what you should try. Then they do a 90 day fulll money back return if you’ve made the wrong choice- we did and was easy to return

I had this and it turned out to be gluten!

Cut out gluten and the backache is gone.

@NuffSaidSam

How did you figure out the link between the two??

Hi, I had this for a few years. Really stiff and painful lower back (left side only) in the mornings. I bought a new mattress and tried 2 different osteopaths with no luck. I recently saw a physio about something unrelated and they noticed my hips were not in alignment. They fixed it there and then and I haven't had any issues since (been 5 months).

Hope you get it sorted soon, good luck!

For me, I developed other symptoms that I googled and it said likely a gluten allergy so I cut out gluten to solve that problem.

But then my lower back pain (worse in the morning and over night) magically disappeared too. I'm a nanny and had previously put it down to years of lifting babies/toddlers. When I've occasionally fallen off the gluten-free wagon the return of the back ache is the most obvious symptom.

I would see a physiotherapist before doing anything else. They are brilliant at identifying back issues.
Once you have an idea of the cause then consider mattress / osteopath if you wish.

I have had the same for some years. I have seen massage therapists and recently a physio who checked my hips etc. all ok.
for me it’s staying still..which is fatal. So lying in bed too much, standing for periods of time do me in.
i was given some exercises, and like you kicking around helps it ease. Have a look at some YouTube lower back exercises
