Food allergies have been ruled out. He may have had a lactose intolerance up until Xmas but some days now he has runny nappies up to 3 or 4 times a day. Any ideas???

Are you sure that he is no longer intolerent to lactose?

minko · 19/01/2008 18:33

No, but the doctor said that unless he had more than 6-7 episodes a day not to change anything in his diet. So I guess we are supposed to go on with 3-4 runny nappies indefinitely...? How long can lactose intolerance last? He was fine for 3 weeks over Xmas but it has started again in the last 7 days.

My son has had runny poos since he was 6 months old (he's now 13 months). He IS lactose intolerent but he's not been on cows milk since he was born (LF formula and LF milk). He's has food allergy tests which came back -ive and a sample of his poo was tested for bugs also -ive. The doctors and considering testing him for coliac. He is 100% healthy in all other ways and my doctor said some babies just have runny poos for no apparent reason and just grow out of it. As long as he is growing and putting on weight they're not too worried (although we was a 'smaller' baby). There's not much advice I can give (because I need it myself TBH!) but I just thought I'ld let you know you're not alone!

I've just found this about 'toddler diarrhoea', which is a bit vague, but seems to sound like it...

He just drink a lot of squash so I'm gonna try just water from now on...

Oooh that could be us as well! I think the doctors are only giving us more tests because it has been going on since such a young age but I bet that's what it is.......

My Dd is also 16 months and often has 3-4 squishy poos a day. Sometimes its only one, but they are rarely what I would call formed, What is "normal" for a wee one this age ? She only drinks water and lactose free formula and has a dairy free diet.
