Heatwave Mon-Tue. Do I need to buy a fan/air cooler?

My eldest has a fan, the rest of us are making use of the winter blow heaters and using the fan setting on those. They are a bit noisy. But wondering if I need something more for us for Mon-Tue. I am little tight with my budget this month and was trying to save for the first time!, so was thinking if we don't go out in the sun and stay indoors if we can get through this without an air cooler? the house is large and windows are good too. the fan heater cool fan does give some air, but not as great as a larger fan. any advice? thanks

@Bluestripeddress don't tell the OP to grow up, how insensitive.
OP I'm sure you'll be fine with your heater on fan setting. Keep your curtains shut and if you have water bottles fill them with cold water and freeze for an hour or two.

Keep blinds or curtains drawn but windows open. Cool shower mid afternoon. Lots of iced water to drink. If you can put feet in washing up bowl of cool water with ice cubes in.

thanks @CrazyRatLover @caringcarer good tips from you. @Bluestripeddress @Ebonyhorse we haven't had hot weather to this extent previously, so maybe we are not used to it. the news doesn't help and people talking about that people will die with the heat! I have a under 5, so just getting a better fan but not bothering with air coolers etc.

No, windows CLOSED.

If the air outside is 40 degrees and the air inside your house is 25, what do you think happens if you open the windows? The air inside your house gets hotter.

Keep the windows closed during the day.

midairchallenger · 16/07/2022 21:41

People do die in extreme heat. Thousands of people who wouldn't otherwise have died.

clipclop5 · 16/07/2022 23:36

Honestly it’s not worth it. We have a fancy dyson fan that did absolutely no good in last year’s heatwave, just blew the already warm air around the room and made things even worse

HorribleHerstory · 16/07/2022 23:50

I don’t have any kind of fan. None at home, none at work. My very elderly grandmother used to have a table standing one but I don’t know anyone else who has had one and I’ve never seen one in anyones house.

Im not planning on buying one OP, I’ve never felt I’m missing one.

If possible, cool the house by opening windows late evening/night and early morning before it gets hotter outside than in. Then close them as it hots up. Close blinds and curtains on the side the sun is. Consider not using devices which generate heat (TV, washing machine) during the day. Drink plenty of water. I'm feeling nervous about school runs, so I understand wanting to prepare as best you can!

but I don't think you need to buy fans etc now for tomorrow.

@midairchallenger @HelloMist excellent tip from you about keeping the windows closed. and curtains closed. 7:30 am all windows were closed and so one room (lounge) remained cool during the day, it didn't really need a fan etc. sometimes we forget and think its fine to just close the curtains, but in this case closing the windows was the best idea as the hot air stayed out. thank you
