Does anyone have adenomyosis?

Just that really.
Anyone else have it? Do you get the big protruding belly?
Have you had treatment?
Will I have to stop taking HRT?😭
Would really like to hear any experiences.
Thanks

Hi I have it, it’s awful! I have a huge hard swollen belly. Am not near menopause so not on hrt so not sure how that works.

SuffolkBargeWoman · 14/07/2022 07:51

Thank you @Strangerthings4NW , the belly is really frustrating, does yours get worse through the day?

I have this still waiting on gynae appointment to confirm and look at. I just seem to get loads of spotting/bleeding between my period and ovulation with it. Don't no about hrt as only mid 30s.

I was diagnosed with it years ago. 49, still have periods, not on HRT. Really just waiting for mine to stop now. Will be seriously annoyed if they keep going for much longer!

I definitely have a swollen belly, it tends to go up and down according to where I am in my cycle and the time of day !!
I’m 51 and had been taking hrt for about 8 months initially it was great, alleviated my peri menopausal symptoms, flushes, insomnia etc, unfortunately after about 4 months I started to bleed flood every two weeks and have really terrible pain.
I ended up having to take Norethisterone 3 times a day to get the bleeding under control.
I’ve recently had a gynaecology appointment/scan and was informed I have adenomyosis (didn’t know I had this ) fibroids ( which I knew about) and an endrometrioma cyst.
In my case the gynaecologist told me to immediately stop taking hrt as he believes the oestrogen is aggravating everything🤔 so I had to go cold turkey.
I’ve been off hrt 4 weeks so far and I feel ok at this point not as bad as i anticipated hopefully it will stay that way🤞
I have another scan in a month to see if stopping the hrt has helped the situation and calmed the adenomyosis/ fibroids down.
Hope this helps.

I'm 47 and have adenomyosis which was confirmed on MRI quite recently. I have been having abdominal pain and bloating. I had Mirena inserted 6 years ago (I'm on my second one) for very heavy periods, flooding and anaemia, I dont have periods anymore due to the coil but I still go through the monthly cycles in terms of symptoms. The bloating is the thing that is the most uncomfortable at the moment, I look like I did when I was 6m pregnant and I'm quite slim so feel like a snake that ate a football Blush

went for both external and internal scan and was diagnosed

I have it. Early 30s . Don’t have the big belly and I’m not on any treatment. Had it 2 years or so now.

Whitehorsegirl · 23/07/2022 18:42

I did. It was confirmed with an MRI scan when I was about 45. I also had endometriosis. I always had awful periods but by that age nothing could control the bleeding. The Adeno had also caused a ball of tissue at the top of my uterus to develop. it was the size of a tennis ball...

In the end nothing could control/stop the bleeding and the pain so I had a partial hysterectomy which gave me my life back.

There is no cure for Adenomyosis but some women manage to ride it out until menopause by having the Mirena coil and using hormones/Tranexamic Acid.

It is hard to diagnose and I was initially to I had a fibroid...

I have it. I’m 40. Diagnosed 2 years ago due to abnormal spotting and painful periods. I’ve always had those but now heavier and very very painful some months. Also very painful ovulation.

currently I don’t take anything and I am not keen to do the mirena but thought I might try the progesterone only pill (as can stop anytime) to see if it helps and if it does have mirena fitted. But I’ve been holding off. Until recently my symptoms have been manageable but now seem a lot worse.

not keen on the hysterectomy idea tbh but would consider ‘partial’ I suppose if necessary.

it’s a bugger. I haven’t found much to help but do take buscopan now for cramps and bloating and find that is good.

I had it. Was diagnosed at 31, due to heavy painful periods and bloating. Tried the pill, Prostap (medical menopause) injections and then endometrial ablation, non of which worked so had a hysterectomy at 36. Had uterus, fallopian tubes (which were riddled with endometriosis) and cervix removed. Never looked back, feel so much better.
