Pain in head of fibular

I was out running last week - a long, hilly run but nothing out of the ordinary. By the end of the run, the head of my fibular was really painful.

It's not gone away. I saw a physio yesterday who thinks it's nerve pain but I think he's wrong - it really doesn't feel like a nerve pain, it's more sharp and stabby and only hurts there, nowhere else.

Anyone any ideas?

I don't really know where to go from here. I can't really afford to see any more physios.

Does it hurt all the time or just when you do certain movements? Could be ligament or tendon damage but I’d have thought the physio would have been able to assess that really? Did he say why he thought it was nerve pain?

It hurts all the time. I think he thought it was nerve pain by ruling out other things and rubbing it in different places asking if it hurt.

Could be the biceps femoris tendon which attaches to the head of the fibular.
Id ask the physio to check for avulsion of this tendon as it’s something that can develop in sports where you have high impact (downhill) or high power (uphill) knee flexions on running…so trail running in mountains or high energy sprinting (flat).

Thanks @Discovereads , all my running is in the fells - so down or up - that does sound like a possibility.

Sorry about the typo no idea why autocorrect thought fibula was fibular. Good luck finding out what is going on and getting treatment!
