Very late period - perimenopause at 43?

My periods have always been regular, generally every 28 days though can be a day or two early or late. My period is now 11 days late this month which is very late for me.

I can’t be pregnant as I had a period last month and haven’t dtd since then. I have had very light spotting mid month most months for a couple of years but had tests over a year ago and they were satisfied all was well and it was just one of those things. I’ve been very irritable and have had mood swings for over a year. But no other symptoms like hot flushes.

Could this be perimenopause at this age? I’m worried about this sudden late period - they were exactly as normal up until last month.

I would test. It isn’t that uncommon to have one or two period like bleeds after conception

(I was 45 when my peri-menopause symptoms … weren’t!!)

Thanks - oh wow! DH has also had a vasectomy so it would mean that reversing itself and me bleeding during pregnancy. I’ll do it to rule it out though.

I have also put on weight in the past few months too and am really struggling to get it off, which could be either scenario I guess! 😳

I'd probably test to rule out pregnancy but I was 42 when I had my last period. Am aware that's early though. Like you I was fairly regular but then was a couple of weeks late. Was a doozy that lasted 6 weeks! Then nothing for 6 months after which I had a normal period, nothing since (am late 40s now). Looking back though at the number of times I'd been to the doctor with what I now know to be classic peri symptoms and been dismissed (neither they nor I considered it) over the previous decade the warning signs were all there.

Thanks, I’ll be happy if the same happens to me.

Last time I went to the GP I mentioned my irritability and getting stressed and overreacting to little things but they dismissed me saying it was normal and said about the fight or flight response. I don’t feel that my moods and how I’ve been feeling are normal - and my DH doesn’t either!
