Thanks

My ds has had two or three episodes where he has had stomach cramps that come on after eating and he has to lie down. then he perks up a bit, eats something else and the cramps return. On both occasions they have lasted a couple of days. he is not sick (although sometimes feels it) no diaorrea.

Does your ds take the meds every day? How often was he ill before he started taking them?

What is the basis of your sisters diagnosis?

My DTDs suffer mesenteris adenitis, hich causes abdo pain. It can be so severre children have ended up on the theatre table with (misdiagnosed) appendicitis I believe.
This is caused by swollen glands in the abdomen (like in your neck) so it can precede/accompany/take a while to recover from any infection.
This is easily treated with ibuprofen for DTDs most of the time (but can be bad enough to warrant stronger meds in hosp).

I only mention it because when I have mentioned it/described symptoims to people in RL they have said things like "oh you mean abdominal migraines"...but it is quite different, but easily confused.

X posts.

Sounds similar to DTDs symptom wise. They always get the pain after eating. I think as the bowel mobilises it causes irritation to the glads (as they are embedded in the membranes which keep the gut in the right pace).

Is it ever associated with another infection? even a cold?

FooFooTheSnoo · 17/01/2008 13:41

That's interestng shrek. We;ve all been a bit under the weather since christmas - ans the episode before christmas was definitely assocated with colds/ viruses.

I tried giving him some calpol last time he had it and it seemed to make things much worse - he was in real pain. I was contemplating a and e and then it seemed to improve again.

We contemplated A&E with DTD1 once too she was so bad.

The pain on lasts a few minutes at a time though, so you relax and ten minutes later you are ready to get in teh car for A&E again?

FooFooTheSnoo · 17/01/2008 13:49

The pain does seem to come in waves. But gets better as the stomach empties, then worse again when he eats.

In case you are googling, there is a typo in th ename. It should be MesenteriC Adenitis.

If you search the boards with Mesenteric you get some real suffers. I just thank my stars we have only really had 1 bad attack, but lots of mild grumbles with every cold.
