Reoccurring Tonsilitus :(

DD is 2.8 and is suffering from her I believe 4th stint of bacterial tonsilitus since Christmas at the moment. Last time she had it was end of April/ beginning of May time and was actually admitted into hospital because temp was uncontrollable and really really lethargic.

Each time she gets it, she seems to get it very severe from the offset and it lasts longer than what your average bout of it would normally be. It seems relentless 😭

Was called to collect her from her childminder on Friday afternoon as they had said she seemed really lethargic, was complaining of body aches and temp had sky rocketed. I knew instantly what it was. Was awake through the night with her last night and upon inspection this morning her tonsils were covered in white puss spots and very very enlarged. Called 111 who put us in touch with an OOO doctor who prescribed her AB’s but DD point blank refuses to take them. She hates the taste so every attempt at taking them she ends up inconsolable and projectile vomiting. Will need to call back first thing tomorrow to try get a diff lot prescribed.

She woke me 30 minutes ago crying, checked her temp and it was V high, administered calpol and offered fluids and lay down with her to try and comfort her back off to sleep. After 5 minutes she vomited. I’m assuming it’s the high temp that’s causing it (she’s not normally sick when she has tonsilitus) so now I’m extra worried. 😓I have brought her downstairs again and we are curled up on the sofa watching TV at the moment.

I find this all V triggering and my anxiety is through the roof. I’m not great when it comes to dealing with sickness. Dr’s sent through a referral to ENT supposedly in January but still yet to hear anything from them (she will definitley need them removed in the future!).

Any other mummy’s or daddy’s LO’s get like this with tonsilitus?

Feeling very stressed with it all and in need of a hand hold 🙁

My DD was similar and has finally had her tonsils out now. From referral to ENT to actual tonsillectomy was about 18 months - and that coincided with covid starting (so I'm pretty impressed tbh!)

The battles with foul tasting antibiotics are just the worst so you have my full sympathies there. I think my DD is actually traumatised by liquid medicine now - even calpol, so she has learnt to swallow tablets (aged just 6).

I hope your night/morning improves greatly and your little ones temp goes down.

My son was prescribed antibiotics as a four year old for a bone infection. He'd been in hospital having iv antibiotics. He wouldnt take the medicine which he was meant to take three times a day for months. Nothing disguised the taste and it was vile. The doctor was very sniffy saying it was the best treatment. I said he could have a go administering it to the four year old holding him down, forcing his mouth open and squirting it down. In the end they precribed another more palatable antibiotic.
