Alcohol and upset stomach

Hello 😀

I am 29, these past few years I tend to get an upset stomach the day after alcohol, say after a bottle of wine. No hangover just the stomach, this pretty much leaves me hidden away at home the next day! I go on holiday next month and really want to be able to enjoy a drink without worrying about the next day and been stuck in the hotel 🤣. I already take a good probiotic and recently read that inulin powder could help as it is a prebiotic and bulking properties but honestly it's made it worse! Anything else I could try? Thank you!

I have this too- think alcohol is known to be an irritant to the digestive system so I don't think it's anything unusual. Mine isn't as bad if I drink lots of water and eat something substantial.

You’re probably allergic to alcohol and shouldn’t drink.

A bottle of wine is quite a lot to drink, and your stomach probably doesn't like it!! I try and limit to two glasses of wine which I enjoy- and then just have a soda and lime on between which looks like a gin and tonic so no one comments! (Which they shouldn't but they do!). A whole bottle tends to make my stomach upset too!

I think you'd do better to learn how to relax and let your hair down without having a drink.

If I drank that much I would have an upset stomach (and feel rough) the day after!

That IS a hangover. I'm not sure why you'd think it's not.

Different people have different hangover symptoms, and these symptoms can change over time. For me it's always manifested itself as nausea.

The best thing to do would be not to drink a bottle of wine! If alcohol isn't agreeing with you, the obvious solution is not to take supplements, but to try having only one or two glasses. If that doesn't work, you'll probably need to give it up altogether.

My dh is the same. If he drinks too much (rarely) he feels ill the next day but it's NOT A HANGOVER because he doesn't get them.

Dh my love, you're 50 and now you get hangovers.

Oh, and (sorry too many messages) it used to be that taking Zantac before drinking would protect my stomach if I knew I was likely to overindulge, but ranitidine is no longer available. Other long acting anti-acids may do the same trick but I've just gone for not drinking so much.

I find milk thistle lessens the gastric effects.

You could just accept that you aren't 18 anymore, your body is trying to tell you something important and drink less?
