UTI on the day of scheduled Cystoscopy

Hi
I suffer from recurrent/chronic UTI. I'm on 4th course of antibiotic in a month.
GP referred me to the urologist a week ago. She said he would do some test necessary. I would assume one of the tests must be cystoscopy.
I have been reading up about it on internet. I believe they test your urine before procedure and if they find infection, cystoscopy won't go ahead.
I have UTI infection so frequently. I'm worried I might have UTI on the day. ( quite likely). Has anyone had this experience? If it happens, what is going to happen?

You'd be told if you were going to be having a cystoscopy surely? It's done as a procedure you won't just turn up for an appointment and they do one without warning.

Sorry forgot to say I've had multiple cystoscopys before.

I recently had referral to urology, blood in urine, thought I was just going in for consultation, tested urine when I arrived, blood found. Did the cystoscopy there and then, my local hospital do a one stop clinic so any tests that are needed are done at the appointment.

Hi - I was taking a daily antibiotic for nearly four years to prevent recurrent UTIs. If I stopped taking them I’d have an infection again within days. I had a consultation with a nutritionist about my eating habits generally but she was shocked that I had had many urology consultations and investigations and that no one had looked at my diet. She said that she thought that the sugar I was eating was creating the right conditions for repeated UTIs. I cut sugar from my diet and took biokult every day for six weeks. Within days that horrible constant ‘tingle’ pre infection feeling had gone and I haven’t had an infection since(over two years now) and the difference is amazing! I have reintroduced some sugar but I’m very mindful of how much- maybe this could help you too!

Hi
That's interesting. I would be grateful if you could let me know which make of 'Biokult' you took and where from.
Thank you!

I had similar in my mid-20s - constant UTIs, went on prophylactic antibiotics to get them under control (which caused an acute pulmonary response, a whole other drama).

I had a cystoscopy scheduled, definitely had the pre-burning/tingle of a brewing infection on the day (but that was always there, pre-antibiotic warfare). They didn't bat an eyelid, went ahead with the procedure which was a bit uncomfortable but nothing major. Mind you, I am talking about <counts backwards> 27 years ago, I'm fine now and don't get them anymore. Occasional kidney troubles.

Just be forewarned of the very strange sensation afterwards when peeing out the saline they stream into your bladder, because some air gets in there too - audibly farting from the urethra is a once in a lifetime experience.

Hi - originally I bought it from Amazon but then realised that Tesco sell it too so now just buy it from there. During the six week period I was taking 1 after each meal and adding kimchi and kefir to my diet to change my gut bacteria to be inhospitable to the yeasts that sugar generated. I now take one biokult each morning. This seems to be such a common issue and I’ve told various friends about it and it’s worked for the ones who stuck with it! It’s hard at first but to be free of panicking and worrying about UTIs constantly is worth every moment, I’m not even tempted to go back to my old diet - I also lost a stone and a half!

Thank you for your info & advice!. AlsoMy local Tesco doesn't sell them, so I just order them. Also, one of my husband's friends is a nutritionist/retired GP. I'll have a word with him re: my diet.
Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I suspect two factors( postmenoposal, diabetes) might be contributing to my "UTI SAGA". Hopefully the specialist will come up with some effective treatment plan for me.
Thanks again!
