Can anxiety/stress cause numb/tingling in body

Saturday I noticed my arm was numb, which was weird and so I called docs as it didn't go on Monday, they said most likely a pulled muscle/nerve and to wait a week to see if it goes, I've now noticed both my legs are tingling/numb and my right arm is a bit aswell, hands also have pins and needles.
I've just gone through a break up and I'm wondering if this could be stress/heartbreak? I'm worried about the symptoms but they did start out of nowhere and the day after my now ex partner left me.
It just seems very coincidental...dr google is scaring me though! I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and it's been ok?

Hi OP. Thought I'd message as this sounded familiar to experience I had. Dizziness off and on for long period. I was referred to get my ears checked and subsequently to neuro. Nothing sinister but what did show up was something called a chiari malformation. Showed on scan almost by accident. Can be quite common and many people have it and be totally unaware. I wouldn't start googling it as you'll only see the serious stories. In a nutshell it can impact movement of fluid in the spine which can cause the tingling or dizziness. But I was told to watch out for numbness or tingling in hands and feet. I've experienced this once but mild and it went away on its own. They scan me every 2 years just to make sure there's no change. If there was anything major they can do an operation but that's worst case scenario. I'm obviously not a doctor but when reading your posts I can see you're concerned and it sounded similar to my experience. So just wanted to offer an example of something it "might be" that's not sinister by way of some potential reassurance.

Separately I've absolutely had the tingling and numbness down one arm for days. To point where they gave me an ECG. Turned out it was anxiety that I didn't realise I even had. But it was in the weeks leading up to my wedding so go figure!

Yes I’ve had numbness when I had an accident and was highly stressed.

Try exercising a bit. Something like Lucy wyndhams seven minutes series, on you tube. It’s hard to keep the body tense when you are doing a series of exercises.

Oh no :( I hope it's not that, of course I've gone to search now. I actually have been getting tingling in my hands and did note this to the doctor but again they said from my obs and neuro I only failed the standing with eyes closed, everything else was perfect so it has not been put through as urgent as they don't think it's warranted

Hey OP, hope you’re well! Just wondering if you’re still experiencing this?

Hi! So it now happens a few times a month, I have seen the neurologist and had an examination, passed every neuro exam except the Romberg so have been referred for an MRI but neuro doesn't think this is sinister

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I’m so happy you’re feeling better. I’m dealing with this now. I have 2 babies under 2 so I’m dealing with quite a bit of stress lol. I’ve had an mri and bloods and all came back fine (thank god). I have health anxiety though and I’m convincing myself it’s something bad.

SB1990 · 27/11/2022 08:16

Sorry one other question. Did you take or do anything that helped?

No problem! The reassuring thing is that you've had your tests and everything is normal, I also have anxiety it's the worst :( but I haven't took anything I've found helps I'm afraid, the dizziness is there all the time the tingling comes and goes for me

Have you tried vitamin D? I have a vitamin D deficiency but tingling is a symptom of this, maybe try that if you haven't already :)

So since it began I started taking a bunch of diff vitamins. I figured since having 2 babies so close together I’m probably low on a lot. Vitamin D is one of them that I take. Since I started the vitamins it has calmed down a lot (it used to be constant)! Do you get it in your hands?

Sorry just caught up on a few responses, has menopause been ruled out? Good luck with the MRI
