Skin prick allergy test

RedRobyn2021 · 06/07/2022 06:55

My daughter had a skin prick test yesterday. She is allergic to eggs and milk, we stopped giving them to her when she was 7 months and we have waited 10 months for this test at the hospital.

She did not have a reaction to either. Does anyone know if this means she isn't allergic anymore?

I have a week to wait before the doctor calls and I don't want to get my hopes up, but surely this means she's grown out of it?

Sounds like it, surprised doctor didn't discuss after test. My daughter had one for nuts, no reaction and doctor said to introduce it that weekend slowly... First on tongue, wait a little, then on spoon, wait again then little bit on cracker etc just checking along the way. Was it at an allergy clinic? Prob best to wait though ..

Yes she might have. Milk and egg allergy are the most likely to be outgrown. Did they also do blood tests? You might be advised to do the milk and egg ladders at home, or a supervised feed in hospital.

Actually it was on lower lip first, then wait before trying on tongue.. challenge tests ..

We had similar with ds. We were told not to give him the food but to wait until the follow up appointment with the dr. The dr booked him in for a food challenge day in hospital increasing the food over the course of the day.

@Carolenarua yes it was at the allergy clinic, I'm going to wait because it's only a week but I just didn't want to spend the whole week getting my hopes up

@Nightmanagerfan no they didn't do a blood test. I was just told to wait until the doctor called to discuss. It's all taken such a long time, this would make life so much easier and I would also love for her to try eggs again and real cheese!

Hi op. We had same for my dd and the allergy clinic booked her in for the day to have the foods, think they call it a good challenge

RedRobyn2021 · 06/07/2022 07:38

@forlornlorna1 are you at the clinic all day? Do you know how it works?

We were in the clinic probably a bit longer than a school day. We went in to the children’s ward in the morning and they started with touching to lips then tongue at times intervals and his heart rate, blood pressure etc were taken after each bit of food. The volume was increased each time to check for a reaction.
We still were told not to give him the foods even the ones there had been no reaction to until another follow up paed appointment where she then said to introduce him to them slowly and gave me a list of related food to try.

Have had a call from the doctor who wants us back in for a blood test to be sure and if that is negative they want to do a controlled test for milk and egg.

I wonder how many more months we will be waiting now.
