Numbness and tingling in left arm

I've had this weird numb and tingling feeling from my shoulder down to my hand, my fingers are extra clicky lately aswelI and have been uncomfortable when typing, I work full time on a computer so not sure if it's related but my symptoms came a few days ago on my day off... I called the doctor today and they said it could be a pinched nerve or I slept on it funny in one position and it caused the tingling/numbness and said to leave for a week and see if it goes. Problem is I'm so worried about it! I keep thinking the worst case scenario and doctor google is not helping, my right arm also feels like I've pulled a muscle which is weird because I haven't gone to the gym in years or done anything strenuous from what I can remember, it just feels really strange. Anyone had any experience of this or have any tips/advice? I could really use it! :( thank you if you respond today. I appreciate it.

Carpal tunnel?

Carpal tunnel?

I think carpal tunnel is a bit more specific with the fingers and things...mine isn't a specific finger, I'm also not experiencing any pain with it just discomfort and like a heavy aching feeling

I get the same and mine is a nerve issue. I have had previous surgery on my other arm (cubital and carpal tunnel) as it was worse on That side. If it continues they can do nerve conduction tests.

I also have the same, cubital tunnel syndrome. It’s unpleasant at times but annoyingly my other elbow has a worse condition which is just pain with no numbness etc. I also work on a computer all day and having bent elbows or using my phone for too long makes it so much worse on both sides.

Oh really! I wouldn't have thought how I could have done it, I've never had anything like it! My arm feels so weak and heavy and just none stop tingling it's a horrible feeling

How does one end up with something like this? I've never experienced anything like it, it's very uncomfortable, how can I help reduce the symptoms?

Is it nerve damage caused by repetitive strain on your wrists, elbows and shoulders if you are on the computer all day. Do you sit on an ergonomic chair.

I don't, I sit on my sofa, could that be why?

Numbness and tingling are signs of a pinched/ trapped nerve. I'm guessing your shoulder, and could well be using laptop on your sofa causing pressure on your shoulder
Unfortunately simple painkillers don't work on nerve pain
You may be able to find exercises on YouTube to help

You are much better sitting at a desk, with a ergonomic chair and a mouse support, if you sit on the sofa you will be hunched over with no support.

Would it affect my whole arm and hand though? I just feel like my anxiety is saying it's something way worse, il try some exercises!

I will try and look into that

Try lying flat on your back with a rolled up towel in the small of your back and another one supporting your neck. You want to have your eyes facing straight up to the ceiling and back a little. Try and relax all the muscles in your back, shoulders, neck and arms and let your back arch a little and your shoulders widen and touch the floor. You might have to tell the muscles to relax. Stay like that for 10 mins. Then sit up and do some nerve glides for the ulnar and median nerves (look them up on you tube). Try very hard to not slump forward, at all, when you are working. Take some nurofen at night and hope that this works. If it doesnt you could try seeing a physical therapist or a really good massage therapist.

If you have a pinched nerve, it can ping the nerve in one direction or both…that is why your whole arm could be tingling, rather than just one spot

uncomfortablydumb53 · 05/07/2022 19:18

Yes it can affect your whole arm
I managed to trap my Trapezius nerve in my shoulder last year, and at my worst, I had to use a sippy cup! I couldn't lift a full mug

rookiemere · 05/07/2022 19:30

I had this, it's a pinched nerve in my neck.
Amiltryptaline calmed it down after a few weeks but what worked best were some postural pilates exercises. The most effective one is if you stand back against the wall, suck your tummy in and put each arm above your head in turn about 10 times each side. It may be sore on the sore side but try to do 3 x daily. Also use a tennis ball to massage the back of your neck to ease off the pressure.

But you do need a proper work chair and monitor set up.

Thank you! I'm having some real strong aches in my arm this evening aswell, I would almost say it hurts a bit? I'm gonna try these exercises and take some paracetamol

Just to add I also took amiltryptiline and it did help. Took it until I had surgery to release the nerve.

Thank you all for your comments and for responding, I'm gonna take up all of your advice and hopefully this gets better!

Are you still sitting on the sofa, have you been sitting at an angle and got a bit of sciatica

catpoppet · 06/07/2022 17:27

are you under stress? I get this kinda thing when stressed, can be a symptom of anxiety.

BlanketsBanned · 06/07/2022 17:28

Well I'm currently going through a break up after 5 years, cheated on me so I would say I'm fairly stressed right now, could that cause all of this?
