MMR Single Vaccines... has anyone had them?

Hi, my DDs has just had her 1st birthday so I know the MMR isn't too far away.

From the start me and my partner have had mixed reviews about whether to have the MMR or to pay for single vaccines.

I have looked in my local area (West Sussex) but am struggling to locate anywhere that does the single vaccines.

Has anyone opted for the single vaccines? Did you feel it the right choice after having them? Any help on where I can information on single vaccines?

I have already tried the JABS site but found any request for info to be a standard generalised reply.

Thanks everyone.

I had ds1s done with these people www.wellcare.co.uk and i'm having ds2s done with them as well. They have clinics all over the place, maybe near you.

Just checked out the site.

Closest to me is Eastbourne and thats a good few hours away.

Thanks for the link though, was worth a try.

I had DS's done at Breakspear:

www.breakspearmedical.co.uk/

I felt it was the right choice for him and still do.

I could not find anywhere near me but had personal recommendations for Breakspear so decided was worth the travelling.

There is a singles clinic called MMR Clinic in Haywards Heath, West Sussex run by an NHS doctor.

tbh, i think that the mmr is prob safe, but dp wont hear of it and i can hardly override a veto like that, can i? id kill him if he did that to me.

so ds1 had the seperates. which was conveneint then as we lived in london. then ds2 had 2 of the 3, but i never got round to the mumps one as yet... and ds3 is 2 on tuesday and hes had nowt. (i am a shit mummy, clearly).

i have to get round to organising ds 2 and 3 to catch up asap really.

as for experience: seemed fine enough to me. no major reactions and they get over the jab pretty quickly. if anything, i think 1yo ds1 was more pissed off at being stuck 3 times and by the third one he was v resistant to going into the 'room of pain and torture'

DD1 and 2 had the single vaccines - we had to travel to Colchester - here. Neither had any problems - dd1 had the pre-school MMR - no problems there either

You're right there Nappies, when they've been a couple of times and they know whats coming they're slightly reluctant. The doc was very good though, very calming on ds1.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 17/01/2008 20:45

Mine had the combined but a lot of friends had single jabs and 3 of the clinics they used ran out of one of the vaccines (mumps or measles, I can't remember now) and it was months and months before they were contacted - and being shit busy, most of them still haven't gotten round to it. The children will all be 7 this year!

So when you book, just check that they're well stocked.

My DS also had his vaccines at Breakspear. They were fantastic. Soon due to have his boosters.

I found the Dr Halvorsen's book The Truth About Vaccines a very interesting read, I ordered it through the library.

snuffle · 18/01/2008 12:59

Car25... thanks, I may think about using the MMR clinic then as its the closest to me.

I was just a little unsure about there website as to me it seems they want you to sign a million odcuments stating you wont sue if something goes wrong and that didnt feel me with much confidence!

We gave DD singles at this clinic www.dh2.co.uk/ Am not sure where their clinics are but might be worth a look

snuffle · 21/01/2008 19:26

Tnanks, looks like they are holding a clinic at a local hotel in the next month, although this may be a little soon for my DD but its good to know they travel to most of the major towns.
