Dreaded Calpol - Any natural alternatives?

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone out there can suggest a paracetamol infant suspension that isn't full of E numbers and artificial additives? I am quite happy for my ds (14 months) to have paracetamol as I realise how useful this is to treat fevers etc, but would rather he didn't have the other bits that make it flourescent pink and sickly sweet!

I spoke to my GP this morning about this, and he said that he gets asked this question more and more often, but that he couldn't recommend anything himself and suggested that I should speak to my pharmacist - I have already done this to no avail, but figure if there is such a demand, there must be the product...?

Any suggestions gratefully received

what about medinol? The colour in calpol send DS loopy - his teacher says it's like he's on speed - medinol is not brightly coloured but i think it does have the sweetners. or juniort disprol??

E120 which is the colouring in calpol os actually either banned or not recommended for children in scandanavia, usa, australia, japan and others......but eurpoe say it's 'perfectly safe'!!!!!

blushing - looking at my sugarfree box of calpol and don't see any E120 (lots of other E's, however). are you reading the sugar box? cheers.

Hi it's also cochineal - i use the sugar free and sugared for DD - it doesn't affect her like it does DS. Boots own, tescos own and asdas own all have colouring too

I had to beg our paediatrician for a prescription for suppositories as my DD wouldn't take calpol.

Even the fact both my DC's have febrile convulsions, far more than normal and after the normal age, but he was very reluctant because of the price.
Have you tried half a calpol melt.

I know this is two years late, but since this page came up in a google search for me, I'll add the info I found in case anyone else comes across it.

Here's info on how to deal with teething using natural products (including why Teetha doesn't work for everyone, and dosages for Belladona)

and from the same website, what the problems are with calpol (including the fact that most of the E numbers are banned in other countries)
