Ruptured Appendix - recovery time

Hoping people might be able to share their experiences. My appendix ruptured 5 weeks ago so had emergency laparoscopic surgery to remove, 5 nights in hospital and 10 days of antibiotics. No serious pain anymore just discomfort at times and my energy levels are not returning to normal. I need a nap every day (usually after the discomfort starts. I am also a little breathless but that has improved massively - though not fully. I was back in hospital two weeks after surgery with suspected clot that turned out to be nothing - thankfully! Things I've looked up say 4-6 weeks recovery and I am really hoping the next week turns everything around but right now, it feels like 6 weeks is optimistic.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I was 7 weeks off work (full knife job not laparoscopy) and on reduced hours for 4 weeks until I started to feel anything like.
You should start feeling better in the next couple of weeks but take it easy for another month at least and don't rush it.

Everyone is different but this happened to DH a few years ago, and I think it was only about a month before he was back to normal tbh. He was only in hospital for 3 nights, I think, but there weren't any complications after the surgery, so that probably made a difference.

Ultimately, it takes as long as it takes, so don't push yourself to be back to normal before you're ready. And speak to your doctor if you're concerned that you're not recovering as quickly as you should.

DH had the full works, ruptured appendix, laparoscopy, sepsis, 1 week in ITU and another in HDU and then issues with wound management. It was awful. Anyway. He was out for the count for the first month, months 2-3 were slow recovery/physio and by about month 4 he was pretty much fully recovered. He was pretty fit beforehand though which always helps! 6 weeks does seem quick but I expect you will find you’re constantly improving. I would expect 8-10 weeks for a full recovery without the added complications my DH had.

Everyone is different - I was back to work in 10 days but wouldn't advocate that!

I meant a laparotomy not a laparoscopy..

I was 30 full knife 🔪 job too. I was back at work full time after 6 weeks. And was gentle swimming before that. I was bored stiff so as soon as the wound was heeled over I was swimming.
That said I was fairly fit at the time too

Oh I was told no horse riding for 3 mths. Incase of accident and rupture he did say the wound would still be healing inside.

Thank you everyone. So lots of varied experiences and my experience so far doesn't sound too abnormal.

I had this last year - I'd say 6 weeks sounds about right. It's so tempting when you start to feel better to go right back to normal activities but try and take it easy, and ease yourself back in!
