Abnormal mole or something more serious?

Hi!
Just wanted to start by saying I do have an appointment with my family doctor booked but the soonest I could get in was middle of next month.
Just starting to worry as I was recently reading up on skin cancers and realized this mole fits a lot of the warning signs or so I think. Mainly the shape and multiple colours.
Ive had this mole for as long as I can remember and I don’t think it has changed at all not that I’ve noticed at least. It’s on my leg and measures just 4mm.
Just looking for opinions on if it’s something I should be worried about or your past experiences with different looking moles?

  • pics are same just different light and angle

@LunaAndHerMoonDragons thanks for the info! And it’s comforting knowing you have some that look similar to mine that your gp wasn’t worried about. Unfortunately this is my only one that looks like this so not sure if that makes any difference or if it falls under the “ugly ducking” rule I read about. But I guess I just wait and see what they say!

I did have a biopsy on a mole that was cancerous. It had grown about 50% in 9 months. Always best to get these things checked.

Thanks you @Ck189 . Now I've had the dodgy bit lopped out it seems to be okay but just awaiting some more tests.

Hi OP just wondering how you went with your mole?

Vallmo47 · 16/11/2022 07:19

At the start of this year I was referred by GP for 3 suspicious looking moles, they fit the criteria because they were large, to the human eye looked irregular in size and one was itchy/sore. The last thing I suspected was due to a skin condition as I get it on other areas of body too and not connected to mole. All the same, I was referred under the 2 week wait. It was worrying yet also reassuring to be referred, I have tons of moles all over. The hospital was incredibly reassuring, looked at them in microscope and explained the 3 different types of moles there are. While I had some of the criteria that suggests something more sinister, the doctor was reassured that these aren’t cancerous. In the microscope he said even though one IS irregular to the human eye, when looking at it in detail it actually is perfectly regular.

Please try not to worry. One of mine is over 6 cm’s and that one was also fine. I didn’t have to have anything removed. One thing they did ask me to do was to take regular pictures of the moles in question and keep measurements of their size stored in my phone. He said one man had records of his moles from the past 5 years back and it was a HUGE help to them.
I also want to add that my grandfather had skin cancer and went on for a very long time and eventually died of other causes at 93 years of age. So obviously skin cancer is a worry, but it’s reassuring to know you’re going to get looked at. An enormous weight was lifted off my shoulders literally seconds after leaving the hospital. Good luck.

And now I’ve looked at the date of your original post and realised you will have given all of the info. :/ I hope it reassures someone else in same position.
How did you get on?

I know what it is like to be worried. I keep an eye on my many moles and go to GP if I see a change. I’ve included a photo of one that changed on my back and turned out to be a stage 0 melanoma ie on the surface so just needed more digging out. You can see how dark it is. It was small as well.
